KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur's future lifestyle and entertainment hub known as 'TREC' is a new attraction for tourists to visit Malaysia.

Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said Trec - which offers more tourism activities and events - would make Malaysia a more attractive tourism destination and encourage tourists to stay longer.

TREC is the term for Taste, Relish, Experience and Celebrate while Trec project cost of RM152 million would be funded by private companies. The project to be build on seven-acres of land owned by the Royal Selangor Golf Club along Jalan Tun Razak would be fully operational by end 2015.

"We are no longer known for just our wonderful beaches and hospitality. We are also a country that can offer a diverse range of propositions as we have the expertise and infrastructure to do so. It is to our credit that our international reputation now reflects this," said Mohamed Nazri. Mohamed Nazri said this in his speech text for the official launch of TREC which was delivered by the ministry's Deputy Director-general (Promotion) Datuk Azizan Noordin here, today.

He said TREC would also contribute a projected Gross National Income (GNI) of RM140 million as well as the creation of 1,830 jobs in the Klang Valley by 2020.

"Trec also embodies our evolution as a tourist destination whilst having a positive influence on our local economy," he said. He said TREC was endorsed by his ministry as a Designated Entertainment Zone and as an Entry Point Project under the Tourism National Key Economic Areas Entry EPP 8.
