KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 (Bernama) -- About 2,000 arts activists will display their works during the 1Malaysia Contemporary Arts Tourism Festival (1MCAT) throughout the country for six months starting June 16.

National Visual Arts Development Board chairman, Datuk Mahadzir Lokman said the festival would be an opportunity for arts activists to showcase the nation's treasures through local works of art.

An estimated 140 arts programmes have been planned, including exhibitions, art residency programmes, book sales, bazaars, auctions, painting competitions and forums.

Meanwhile, the board's corporate communications director, Faridah Hanim Abd Wahab said the programme, which is being held for the fifth time, has been extended from the previous duration of three months to six months.
