KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians are known for their love of food, so it was no surprise that the Fabulous Food 1Malaysia Festival here was packed with visitors.
The three-day festival, which ends today, treated visitors to the country's famous street food, such as asam laksa, rojak, char kuey teow, roti canai, nyonya kuih and nasi kandar.
A total of 130 exhibitors were at the event in Putra World Trade Centre, jointly organised by the Tourism and Culture ministry and the Ku Su Shin Choong Hung Selangor Restaurant Association.
The ministry's deputy secretary-general Rashidi Hasbullah said the event gave a chance to Malaysian restaurant owners to showcase their new ideas and increase creativity while preparing quality dishes to attract tourists.
"However, all restaurant owners must ensure their premises are clean, as cleanliness is an important factor in attracting tourists. "When the restaurants are clean, tourists who visit there will come back again and again and again," he said at the festival's launch on Saturday.
The festival is a prelude to the Visit Malaysia Year 2014, which aims to bring 28 million foreign tourists to the country. Among the other activities organised here are cooking competitions, demonstrations on food acrobatics, eating challenges, and other food-related competitions.
