Putrajaya To Become Pime Tourism And Administrative Centre - PPJ

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 22: The Putrajaya Corporation (PPJ) will take various initiatives to turn Putrajaya into a prime tourism and administrative centre said its president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat today. He said the unique architecture of buildings and bridges, beautiful parks and lake here will place Putrajaya on the local and international tourism map. Therefore, he said a standing committee will be formed with the Tourism Ministry to promote the administrative centre as a tourist attraction.

"I've held two meetings with Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen. The committee will be activated next week and jointly chaired by the Tourism Ministry Secretary-General, Tourism Malaysia Director-General and myself. "We will list all tourism products that can be found in Putrajaya," he told reporters after meeting Nadi Putra bus drivers at the Park & Ride Terminal in Presint 14, here today.

Aseh said the corporation will also conduct various programmes which will make Putrajaya more lively on the weekends. He said they planned to use Nadi Putra buses to transport visitors from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya during weekends for free. "I will try to get the corporate and private sectors to cover the operational cost," he added.

Previously, PPJ rebranded its Best Of Putrajaya Tour programme to promote and give the public an opportunity to visit Putrajaya using Nadi Putra buses for only RM1 on Saturdays and Sundays. Buses will fetch passengers from Putrajaya Sentral (11am and 2.30pm) and Dataran Putra (11.30am and 3pm) on the two days.

Meanwhile, Aseh said the corporation will improve Nadi Putra bus services which now incurs losses of RM18 million a year. "Nadi Putra bus services are not run by a company, but is instead an entity of Putrajaya Corporation which serves the public. I've directed bus drivers to have a meeting and provide me with suggestions on how to improve bus services in Putrajaya," he added.
