Delegates to the Tourism Promotion Organisation (TPO) for Asia-Pacific Forum 2012 will be ferried in style around George Town in specially designed Rapid Penang buses during the event.
Eight buses with the words ‘George Town hosts the TPO Forum 2012’ specially handwritten by Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) president Datuk Patahiyah Ismail and printed on the buses will be set aside for the delegates exclusive use. The buses are part of the promotion programme for the four- day TPO Forum which will take place from September 17 at the Bayview Beach Resort in Batu Ferringhi. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, who officiated the event, said that 27 member cities of TPO would participate in the forum.
“The delegates will include South Korea, Vietnam, China, Russia, Japan, Indonesia and Taiwan. “The council has drawn up a host of programmes for the delegates to participate such as the TPO Festival in Upper Penang Road and the launch of the TPO sculpture at the Friend-ship Park (in front of City Bayview Hotel).
“There will also be the launch of the Graffiti Park at the Penang Municipal Park and the ‘Declaration of the Green Initiatives in the World Heritage Sites’ at the Friendship Park,” he said in his speech yesterday. Special children from several homes were later taken for a ride in the buses after the launching ceremony.
