US filmmakers to scale Mt Kinabalu to highlight disease

KOTA KINABALU: An award-winning documentary team will accompany 60 international climbers up Mount Kinabalu in a bid to create awareness on the Duchenne muscular dystrophy disease.

Titled Dusty’s Trail - The Summit of Borneo, the documentary will outline the story of 19-year-old Dusty Brandon who suffers from the progressive muscle wasting disease. Led by Dusty’s mother Catherine Jayasuriya, who is the Coalition Duchenne founder, the team will begin its second annual three-day climb up the mountain on Friday.
Jayasuriya said US-based DreamQuest Productions would shoot the documentary, aimed at raising global awareness about the most common fatal disease affecting children.
“The documentary, produced by California-based Present Moment Yogi Productions, began filming in California last month,” said Jayasuriya, a Sabahan married to an American. The team will be filming at locations in and around here and Kinabalu Park until Sept 2.
