PUTRAJAYA: Youths have been urged to explore job opportunities in the tourism field, particularly as tour guides, caddies and spa therapists.
Many of these jobs, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, would give them a chance to earn high wages, especially so for those without university qualifications. She said the Government was increasing its efforts to promote lifestyle tourism, a category in which the golf and spa sectors fall into.
“We have a problem where many of our local tourist guides are concentrated in the cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang, leaving other tourist spots unattended to. “These are among the careers that youths can consider,” she told a press conference after launching the Youth Tourism Fair at theHimpunan Jutaan Belia (Millions of Youth Gathering) here yesterday.
Dr Ng said a high performing tourist guide could earn up to RM10,000 per month, while the basic pay for a junior caddy starts at RM1,500.
