RAUB: Motorists and heavy vehicle drivers should keep a lookout for cyclists so as not to endanger the two-wheelers, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said.
She said cyclists were exposed to great risks on the road and needed “cooperation” from other road-users. “The ministry is promoting cycling and the response has been good so far. “However, the safety aspect cannot be taken lightly,’’ Dr Ng said after riding with 300 others in the “Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia Sunday bike ride@Raub” event here yesterday.

The cyclists, who included Raub OCPD Supt Wan Sham- suddin Wan Osman, schoolchildren, government officers, NGO and club officials, rode a distance of 15km. The programme is an extention of the 1Malaysia cycling holiday campaign launched here on April 1.
Dr Ng, who presented 10 bicycles to Supt Wan Shamsuddin for patrolling purposes, said the weekend was a good period to enjoy an outing on two wheels. She said a cycling event from Fraser’s Hill to Raub was being planned to promote the leisure activity.
