Pulau Acheh To Be Developed For Tourism

KUANTAN, May 6 (Bernama) - Pulau Acheh in Rompin will be developed as a nature-themed resort island. To be spearheaded by Plus Asia Jaya Sdn Bhd, the 20.23ha project involves the construction of a five-star hotel and chalets as well as condominiums and a marina.

Plus Asia Jaya chief executive officer, Datuk Loi Kong Yaw, said the RM120 million project would take off in August and was scheduled for completion in two and a half years. "We hope to start operations one year earlier," he told reporters after attending the launch of the tourism development project by the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, here Friday.

Loi said the island would be developed in an environment-friendly manner, with an eye on preserving local flora and fauna. Tioman state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Johari Hussain said Pulau Acheh, located a kilometre off the coast of Endau, Johor, would be an alternative tourist spot to Pulau Tioman. He said the project would translate into 350 jobs for local residents.
