DUBAI, May 2 (Bernama) - Malaysia is promoting its tourism products in the Arabian market to attract more tourists from West Asia to come to the country, Tourism Malaysia acting director-general, Datuk Azizan Noordin said. He said that this was done through the 2011 Arabian Travel Market (ATM) exhibition being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 2 to 5.
This is Malaysia's 18th participation in ATM with the delegation headed by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen, he told Bernama here Monday. He said 87 organisations from the government and the private sector were involved in the exhibition this year, comprising 51 hotels, 26 tour agencies, nine state governments and the Malaysia Airline. Malaysia was provided 80 booths at the pavilion with a traditional Malay house concept, he added.
Azizan said Malaysia recorded 320,373 tourist arrivals from West Asia last year, an increase of 12.5 per cent from 284,890 people in 2009. He said among the Malaysian tourist products being promoted to visitors at ATM were food and culture, beaches and islands, shopping destinations, theme parks and eco-tourism. "Also promoted are edu-tourism, health-tourism, honeymoon destinations, spa and Malaysia My Second Home," he added. He said a Malaysia Nigh Gala Dinner would be held on March 3.
