KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia will re-introduce a fuel surcharge for all domestic and international routes beginning May 3. However, all flight bookings made before May 3 will not be affected by the fuel surcharge.
AirAsia regional head of commercial Kathleen Tan said the re-introduction of the fuel surcharge was to offset the escalating jet fuel price that had exceeded US$140 (RM414) per barrel. “We hope that this will only be a temporary measure,” she said in a statement Friday.
The fuel surcharge (one way) for all domestic flights is RM10. For international routes, the fuel surcharge is RM10 for flights that are less than two hours, RM20 for those that are two to three hours and RM30 for flights above three hours. The fuel surcharge for AirAsia X routes to Taipei, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Seoul, Tianjin, New Delhi and Mumbai is RM50; RM70 for Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth, Tokyo and Teheran; and RM90 for Paris, Stansted (London) and Christchurch.
