KUALA LUMPUR: The new-built 229 keys midscale Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie managed by Accor has officially opened in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Located within the new integrated development of Utropolis Glenmarie, it is the first international business hotel in the Glenmarie area and provides both business and leisure travellers with locally inspired experiences.
Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the Selangor Menteri Besar, gave the hotel its formal opening.
Greeting the newest member of the Mercure family in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, Amirudin said by 2018/2019, Selangor was the third-largest contributor to the nation's tourism industry.
He said Selangor's natural charms and the expanding MICE industry made it a popular vacation destination.
"The airports (KLIA, klia2, and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport) are located in Selangor. The Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie's opening in Shah Alam increases the attraction," he said.
Ramesh Singh Sappel, general manager of Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie, is optimistic about the hotel's performance considering its advantageous location and wide range of services.
He said there were numerous components created to accommodate the various limitations brought on by Malaysia's numerous Movement Control Orders.
Ramesh said the hotel's amenities and services were further enhanced by using the experience to grow from teething problems.
"I am very proud to say that we are now a fully functioning four-star hotel with 229 stylish designed rooms, an urban pool lounge with a stunning view, and facilities to host any professional and personal events.
"None of this would have been possible without the continuous support provided by the Accor team, and the amazing team that we have here. We are not out of the woods yet, but I am sure we can get there," he added.
The 8.78-hectare Utropolis Glenmarie, which has the Utropolis Marketplace mall, 1,500 serviced apartments, and the UOW Malaysia KDU University College campus, is a development by Paramount Corp Bhd.
A contract to operate the hotel was signed by Super Ace Resources Sdn Bhd, a Paramount subsidiary, and Accor in April 2017.
The 13-storey hotel reportedly cost about RM75 million to develop and had been earmarked to complete in 2019.
The hotel held a soft opening on November 15, 2021.
