International and local jetski riders will soon be seen competing with each other off the waters of Pangkor Island during the Pangkor World Jetrace Challenge 2012.
The event, initiated by the state government in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2012, will be held at Pantai Pasir Bogak on July 14 and 15. Organising chairman Khairul Azwan Harun said to date, 14 teams from Malaysia, United Kingdom, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia had signed up for the event. “Those interested can still sign up as registration is open until the end of June.
“Both professional and amateur riders can take part in different categories, namely the Pro-Am Runabout 4 Stroke Open, Ladies Runabout 4 Stroke Open, Pro-Am Runabout 2 Stroke Open, Veteran 4 Stroke Open and 800 Runabout 2 Stroke Open (Jet Ski engine 800cc),” he said. Registration fees range between RM150 and RM300 depending on category. “To liven up the atmosphere, a mini concert will be held at the night on July 13,” he added.
State Culture, Arts, Youth and Sports committee chairman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, who is also adviser of the event, expressed hope it would attract jetski enthusiasts from all over. “We want to introduce the island to our international visitors,” he said, adding that similar championships were previously held in Port Dickson and Langkawi.
