FRASER'S HILL: A new RM4.2mil floral park will be build here to add to the existing attractions. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said work on the two-acre park had already begun and expected to be completed in June next year.
In addition to a glass house, the park would be planted with plants such as impatiens, spider flower and enthurium. "Last year, hotels in Fraser's Hills registered about 76,000 domestic visitors and 10,000 foreign tourists. "With the new attraction, we hope to increase the number of tourists by another 20%," she said during a ground-breaking ceremony of the project here. Dr Ng said RM1.5mil had been allocated to upgrade other infrastructures.
She said despite having only a population of 1,500 people, the Government had approved RM26.2mil under the Ninth Malaysia Plan to carry out 11 projects, including a RM5mil food court. "Our aim is to bring back the charm and attraction of the unique former hill station. "In this regard, we also want to promote Fraser's Hill as the cleanest site in the country," she said.
Dr Ng said any project to be undertaken at Fraser's Hill must consider its history, climate and air as it is internationally acclaimed as an important bird watching site.
