LABUAN: The Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS) is ready to work together to develop the tourism industry between Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
Its Minister, Datuk Jafry Ariffin suggested they jointly organise several programmes in the future, including promoting the National Geopark Labuan and National Geopark Kinabalu as well as the islands in both places.
Efforts must also be made to highlight the historical heritage of Sabah and Labuan, including the Labuan War Cemetery and Kundasang War Memorial, he said during a courtesy call on Labuan Corporation here yesterday.
Also present were Labuan Corporation chairman, Datuk Sri Amir Hussien, deputy chief executive officer (management) Rithuan Mohd Ismail as well as representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac).
Jafry said KePKAS is also planning to promote tourism activities via sports and leisure platforms such as cycling, golf and Sabah-Labuan international fishing competitions.
"I am confident and believe that with continued efforts between both parties, we can revive the tourism industry badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic."
Next will be the continuation to promote "MY Destination Sabah and Labuan" to Johor and Putrajaya from Feb 22 to 25 after the successful outing to Penang on Dec 2, 2021.
Tourism Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Tourism Board, Labuan Corporation and Sabah Tourist Association (STA) are organising the roadshow.
