Terengganu targets 6.5 million tourists by 2025

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 10 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government is targeting 6.5 million tourist arrivals with a projected revenue of RM6 billion by 2025.

State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said in order to achieve the target, the Terengganu Tourism Department has prepared a Terengganu Tourism Strategic Plan 2019-2023.

“The state government will continue to intensify promotions and exciting, creative and unique events making full use of the tourism products in the state so that the objective is achieved, thus providing economic spin-offs to the people of Terengganu,” he said.

Ariffin, who is also Alor Limbat assemblyman, said this to reporters when met after attending a tourism-related meeting with nine non-governmental organisations at Wisma Darul Iman here today.

He said the state government was confident of reaching its target of five million tourists before the end of this year with an increase in the domestic tourism segment via the organisation of large-scale events such as Kenyir Festival at Kenyir Lake, Terengganu Beach Carnival at Batu Buruk and Cultural Week in several districts in July and September .

Terengganu recorded 4.79 million tourists arrivals last year.
