KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Golf Tourism Association (MGTA) targets golf tourism receipts of RM310 million by year-end, up from RM300 million last year and RM296 million in 2012.

Its President Ng Eu Shen said Malaysia won the 'Asia's Best Golf Destination Award' at the World Golf Awards in Portugal on Nov 15 not just for its great golf courses but also for its value-for-money products and services.

"There is an overall perception that Malaysia has value for money in hotel rates, airline connectivity and other tourism products. "We also have less traffic congestion than other countries in the region, are an English-speaking nation, and enjoy political stability," he said in a statement.

Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the achievement signifies the success of a National Key Economic Area (NKEA) initiative to make golfing a focal activity for the future growth of quality tourism.

MGTA was formed under the initiative of the NKEA in March 2011 under the Entry Point Project 9-B (EPP 9-B) and funded by Tourism Malaysia to serve as their golf tourism marketing arm.
