Tourism Malaysia Teams Up With Malaysia Aviation Group On All-Inclusive Packages "Fly Borneo Specials Vol . 1"

 


KOTA KINABALU, 29 September 2023 – Tourism Malaysia, in collaboration with the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), is pleased to launch its latest brochure "Fly Borneo Specials Vol.1 – The Adventure Begins Here!”, as part of Tourism Malaysia’s vigorous efforts in promoting intra- and interstate travel in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan via airline partners through Firefly and MASwings.

More than forty-four thematic holiday packages, from a day trip to a week-long tour, have been created to cater for every interest and age level, including airfare and ground tours. Highlighting Malaysian Borneo destinations, these affordable packages are also compiled in digital and printed brochures for travellers to explore the states’ rugged adventures, colourful cultures and exotic flora and fauna.

The launching ceremony was officiated by Dato’ Dr Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, and attended by Mr Suresh Singam, Chief Operating Officer of MASwings. Also present were Ms Noredah Othman, CEO of Sabah Tourism Board; Mr Ibrahim Othman, Director of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) Sabah; Ms Nurhayati Aziz Rashid, Head, Central Region of MAG; Mr Chali Awang, Area Sales Manager of MAG; Mr Mohd Faharuddin Hatmin, Senior Deputy Director of Corporate Communications Division, Tourism Malaysia and Ms Trecey J Tojuka, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia Sabah.

Dato’ Dr Ammar said: “The collaboration with MAG signifies the milestone in boosting domestic traffic, particularly in East Malaysia via the airline’s network. Hence, I hope this brochure will help further stimulate tourism in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan as Firefly and MASwings have joined forces to offer discounted airfares and tour base fares to support the local holiday packages bundle.”

"Furthermore, the domestic tourists to Malaysian Borneo, namely Sabah, recorded a total of 853,100 arrivals from January to June 2023, as compared to 664,533 in the same period of 2022, thus showing an uptick of 22%. This latest statistic undeniably indicates a positive tourism growth for Sabah.”

Meanwhile, Mr Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group, said: “MAG takes pride in serving as the airline partner for the Fly Borneo Specials Vol. 1 campaign by Tourism Malaysia. Since Firefly expanded its services intra Sarawak and Sabah, our mission has been to enhance connectivity within these regions. Tourism Malaysia Launches "Let's Go MRXD Season 2" In The Metaverse

 


KUALA LUMPUR, 29 September 2023 - Tourism Malaysia makes its first foray into the realm of metaverse by launching “Let’s Go MRXD Season 2”, featuring Thomas Kok, aka Mr Xiao Dong (MRXD), a multi-talented Malaysian artiste in the online gaming platform, Spatial in partnership with Colorverse, WebTVAsia and Prodigee Asia Talent.

This latest collaboration, which is inspired by the production of the "Let's Go MRXD Season 1” travel vlog in Mandarin earlier this year, highlights Thomas’s adventure with his classic Kenari in exploring the northern states of Malaysia to connect with locals with his storytelling, coffee and music, using the reality show concept.

Set to be unveiled in October, “Let’s Go MRXD Season 2” will further explore Thomas’s journey to the central and southern states of Malaysia, including Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Selangor, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur, with the adoption of detailed mapping and Web 3.0 technology.

“Let’s Go MRXD Season 2” was launched today in conjunction with the Malaysia Digital Content Festival held from 27 September to 1 October 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Visitors can look forward to immersing themselves in the novel experience of navigating the Malaysian metaverse via virtual reality (VR) at the Colorverse booth on-site. The first 50 participants each day will receive a special gift sponsored by La Estephe. Colorverse will be at booth 7F065 in the Hall 7 at Level 3.

Tourism Malaysia Lauds Noor Ahmad Hamid’s Appointment As New PATA CEO

 


PUTRAJAYA, 21 September 2023 Tourism Malaysia welcomes the appointment of Mr Noor Ahmad Hamid, the former Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), as the new Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 October 2023.


Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, said: “We are excited to embark on this new transformative journey under his leadership and look forward to collaborating closely with PATA members to elevate the tourism industry to greater heights.”


“With his extensive background and vast experience in tourism and business events, we believe PATA can also champion initiatives to stay relevant in the digital era and to voice out and reset the organisation’s branding and membership engagement.”


Tourism Malaysia has been an ardent PATA Government member for 64 years, starting in 1959, and Datuk Musa Yusof, Deputy Director General of Tourism Malaysia, has led the PATA Malaysia Chapter since 2016.


Recently, PATA announced the reappointment of Ms Noredah Othman, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Tourism Board, to its Executive Board Members for a two-year term beginning 27 June 2023.

Malaysia Truly Asia Festival Promotes Malaysia’s Tourism And Culture To Laotian Market

 


Vientiane, 20 September 2023 – In an effort to introduce and highlight Malaysia’s tourism products to the Laotian market, Tourism Malaysia organised the Malaysia Truly Asia Festival from 16th to 17th September 2023 at Parkson Mall in Vientiane.


The event drew over 12 booths representing Tourism Malaysia, Lao National Tourism (Tourism Development Department), and travel agents namely Vientiane Travel, Ninhomlao Tour, Next Travel, Worldwide Travel, Analine Travel, Venuto Travel, Deluxe World Tour, Family Tour, MD Travel, and Laos Destination Travel Service.


Among the activities carried out throughout the two-day event were stage performances, Malaysian cultural dance performances, games, quizzes, and lucky draws for those who have made their reservations and deposits for their Malaysia tour packages.


“As the festival coincides with Malaysia Day, it was not only a celebration of Malaysia’s independence but also of Malaysia as a unique, diverse family that welcomes newcomers to enjoy the beauty of our homeland,” said H.E. Ambassador Edi Irwan, Ambassador of Malaysia to Laos.


Ms. Sordaly Chantavong, Marketing Manager of Tourism Malaysia Laos also addressed the current travel arrangements between the two countries: “While we may not have direct flights yet to Malaysia, Laotians have the option of taking Scoot Air and transit through Singapore, or AirAsia and Thai Airways where they can transit through Bangkok.”


Also present at the event was Ms. Phonemaly Inthaphome, the Director General of the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and representatives of the diplomatic corps.


From January to December 2022, Malaysia recorded 7,010 Lao tourist arrivals to Malaysia, and saw an increase of 901.0% in the first five months of 2023 (January-May) with 7,187 Laotian arrivals. For 2023, Malaysia has set its target of 16.1 million international tourist arrivals with RM 49.2 billion (USD 11.19 billion) in tourism revenue.

TOURISM MALAYSIA Taja Jersi Polka Dot Raja Bukit LE TOUR DE LANGKAWI 2023

 


KUALA LUMPUR, 18 September 2023 - Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) selaku penganjur PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi (LTDL) 2023, hari ini memperkenalkan Tourism Malaysia sebagai penaja jersi Raja Bukit atau King of the Mountain bagi perlumbaan berbasikal itu yang bakal menyaksikan permulaan saingan di Kerteh, Terengganu pada 23 September ini.


Dengan tajaan sebanyak RM1 juta, kehadiran Tourism Malaysia yang mengangkat jenama “Malaysia Truly Asia”, bakal memeriahkan lagi perlumbaan berstatus ProSeries tersebut selama lapan hari sekali gus mempromosikan segmen pelancongan sukan negara.


Selain tajaan tunai, Tourism Malaysia turut membawakan persembahan kebudayaan tradisional di setiap lokasi pelepasan selain kemunculan pempengaruh media sosial di beberapa lokasi perlumbaan bagi mempromosikan LTdL secara lebih meluas khususnya di Indonesia.


Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Ketua Pengarah Tourism Malaysia berkata, kolaborasi penajaan tersebut bukanlah suatu yang baharu kerana pihaknya telah turut sama mempromosikan LTdL sejak awal penganjurannya pada tahun 1996.


“Tourism Malaysia amat berbesar hati atas penghormatan yang diberikan oleh pihak penganjur kepada kami untuk menyarungkan jersi Raja Bukit di setiap lapan peringkat perlumbaan kepada pemenang.


“Keputusan penajaan ini diambil berdasarkan kepada keseluruhan pakej pulangan yang cukup lengkap, khas untuk mempromosikan jenama “Malaysia Truly Asia” ke seluruh dunia bagi menonjolkan keunikan kepelbagaian bangsa dan budaya sekali gus mempamerkan imej Malaysia sebagai salah sebuah destinasi pelancongan pilihan di rantau ini,” katanya.


Gelaran Raja Bukit sememangnya menjadi menjadi tumpuan dalam banyak perlumbaan besar seperti Tour de France, Giro d’Italia dan Vuelta a Espana, justeru menjadi pertaruhan pelumba untuk menyambar jersi berkenaan, khususnya melibatkan cabaran terbesar Peringkat 5 LTdL di Genting Highlands yang turut diiktiraf sebagai antara pendakian sukar dalam perlumbaan berbasikal dunia.


Tumpuan peminat tempatan pastinya teralih kepada Muhammad Nur Aiman Zariff, pelumba negara mewakili Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team, yang sebelum ini menggunakan kebijaksanaannya untuk mengumpul mata di zon pendakian mudah selain berusaha menempatkan diri dalam kelompok terbaik ketika mengungguli Raja Bukit dalam edisi LTdL 2020 dan 2022.


Sementara itu, Ketua Pengarah MSN, Dato’ Ahmad Shapawi Ismail berkata, dengan promosi siaran langsung di Eurosport dan televisyen tempatan serta platform perkongsian video YouTube dan TikTok, penajaan LTdL mampu memberikan pulangan yang berlipat kali ganda.


Selain itu, menerusi program promosi seperti konvoi Calvacade atau perarakan kereta serta acara sampingan yang membawa jenama Tourism Malaysia, beliau percaya rakyat tempatan juga akan terus memilih destinasi-destinasi percutian menarik di dalam negara.


Bertemakan “Beat The Heat”, LTdL 2023 dianjurkan oleh Kementerian Belia dan Sukan menerusi MSN dengan kerjasama Persekutuan Kebangsaan Berbasikal Malaysia (PKBM). Saingan Peringkat 1 akan bermula di Kerteh, Terengganu dan melewati 11 daripada 12 negeri di Semenanjung Malaysia sehingga ke Peringkat 8 yang akan berakhir di perkarangan Menara Berkembar PETRONAS (KLCC) pada 30 September ini.


Sebanyak 22 pasukan terdiri daripada dua pasukan berstatus WorldTeam, lapan pasukan ProTeam, 11 pasukan Continental dan pasukan kebangsaan Malaysia, akan bertanding dalam perlumbaan kali ini.

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 September 2023 - Sebanyak 12 pempengaruh media sosial yang bernaung di bawah jaringan The Girls Republique, menyertai program Kembara CutiCuti Malaysia The Girls Republique bermula hari ini untuk menghasilkan kandungan media sosial serta mempromosikan destinasi-destinasi pelancongan menarik di sekitar negeri Kelantan dan Pahang.


Program kerjasama strategik bersama Tourism Malaysia itu antara lain bertujuan memberikan inspirasi kepada rakyat Malaysia, khususnya Generasi Z dan Millennial, untuk lebih aktif melancong di dalam negara serta mencipta kenangan indah bersama rakan-rakan sekali gus merancakkan lagi kempen pelancongan domestik.

Malaysia's domestic visitor numbers rise 20% y-o-y to 54.5 million in 2Q

 


KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 15): The number of domestic tourists in Malaysia rose 20% to 54.5 million in the second quarter of 2023 from a year earlier. When compared with 1Q2023, domestic tourism numbers increased 12.2%, said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

The number of domestic visitors totalled 171.6 million last year, a 160.1% increase from 66 million in the previous year.

In a statement on Friday, DOSM chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said overall, Malaysia’s domestic tourism performance in 2022 continued to record positive growth.

Domestic tourism expenditure for 2Q2023 recorded RM21.9 billion, up 23.9% year-on-year and 13.9% quarter-on-quarter. For full year 2022, domestic tourism expenditure totalled RM64.1 billion, up 248.1% from RM18.4 billion in 2021.

DOSM said all states recorded positive growth in terms of visitor numbers and tourism receipts after the pandemic. In 2022, Selangor recorded the highest domestic tourism receipts at RM8.73 billion, a 176.5% increase from RM3.16 billion in 2021. This was followed by Kuala Lumpur which received RM7.73 billion (2021: RM3.08 billion), Sarawak (2022: RM5.43 billion; 2021: RM1.94 billion) and Pahang (2022: RM5.32 billion; 2021: RM0.91 billion).

Shopping was the largest component of the total receipts (RM24.94 billion) for all states, where Selangor dominated with RM3.85 billion, followed by Kuala Lumpur (RM3.71 billion) and Sarawak (RM2.33 billion). The second highest component was food and beverage (for 10 states), followed by automotive fuel (for five states) and transportation (for Labuan).

Meanwhile, DOSM noted that visiting relatives and friends was the main purpose of domestic overnight trips for all states except Penang and Labuan. Holiday/leisure/relaxation was the top purpose of domestic tourists travelling to these two destinations.

Meanwhile, the national average length of stay (ALOS) was 2.55 nights, up 16.6% from 2.19 nights in 2021. The destinations that recorded ALOS exceeding the national average were Labuan (3.67 nights), Sarawak (3.52), Kelantan (3.16), Kuala Lumpur (3.09), Sabah (3.06), Terengganu (2.69), Putrajaya (2.68) and Penang at 2.59 nights.

Based on social and demographic profile of domestic visitors, DOSM said the majority of the domestic visitors received by six states namely Johor, Melaka, Pahang, Penang, Perlis, Selangor, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya earned between RM5,001 and RM10,000 per month.

Five states namely Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah and Sarawak recorded the highest percentage of domestic visitors from households earning RM1,001 to RM3,000 per month.

Tourism Malaysia Kicks Off The Food & Cultural Festival In Shanghai

 


SHANGHAI, 14 September 2023 The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, YB Tuan Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan launched the Malaysia Food and Culture Festival at a Malaysian restaurant, Secret Flavor in Shanghai.

The promotion is part of Tourism Malaysia’s second sales mission to China and participation in the travel tradeshow ITB China in Shanghai, which is led by the Deputy Minister. This festival aims to introduce and promote Malaysia through the country’s rich and diversified cultures and authentic cuisines. It runs from 10 September to 16 September 2023 and coincides with the Merdeka month, celebrating the independence of Malaysia and Malaysia Day.

“The sharing of a meal with family and friends is a common practice in Malaysia which fosters harmony and unity, especially in a multiracial country like ours. The endless varieties of cuisines influenced by the different cultures not only make Malaysian gastronomy interesting and authentic, but also one of the selling points to promote Malaysia to food enthusiasts,” said YB Tuan Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan during the launching of the Malaysia Food and Culture Festival.

Tourism Malaysia has teamed up with Secret Flavor Restaurant situated in the Paris Spring Shopping Mall, Huaihai, Shanghai. This restaurant is owned by a Shanghai-based Malaysian, Chef Shah and it was opened in 2015. Secret Flavor offers Malaysia’s popular dishes such as char koay tiau, nasi goreng kampung, mee goreng mamak and the famous beverage teh tarik or ‘pulled tea’.

Chef Shah is also a champion teh tarik expert, winning competitions back in Malaysia. Chef Shah said that being able to cook authentic Malaysian dishes in China is a dream come true for the Pahang-born man.

The guests also were treated to a special cultural performance from the National Department for Culture and Arts of Malaysia, which was specially flown in all the way from Malaysia. The dancers performed a special opening overture and other dances that depict the multiracial culture of Malaysia.

China remains one of the top market sources for Malaysia and contributed 211,363 arrivals to the country last year. Up to the month of May 2023, Malaysia received 403,121 Chinese tourists, compared to 21,613 (+907.2%) in the same period last year. Malaysia is currently targeting to receive 16.1 million international tourist arrivals with RM49.3 billion in tourism receipts, with 5 million arrivals targeted to be from the Chinese market.

Through its overseas offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Tourism Malaysia continues to intensify promotions alongside travel agents and airlines. With the resumption and announcement of new international routes from Malaysia-based airlines and China-based airlines Air China, Spring Airlines and Xiamen Air there are currently 232 flights per week between China and Malaysia.

Thai Travel Agents Meet Up With Malaysian Travel Trade Partners In Tourism Seminar And Business-To-Business (B2B) Sessions

 


BANGKOK, 13 September 2023 Tourism Malaysia continues to boost its promotion and international marketing efforts in Thailand by organising seminars and business-to-business (B2B) sessions in Bangkok, followed by networking dinner, to arrange possible tie-ups between Malaysian tourism industry players and Thai counterparts.

A total of 120 Thai travel agents and local media met up today with 20 Malaysian travel trade partners comprising travel agents, hotels and resorts, and tourism product owners.

Led by Mr. Mohd Shahrir Mohd Ali, Director of the International Promotions Division (Southeast Asia) Tourism Malaysia, also present were His Excellency Datuk Jojie Samuel, Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand; YB Loh Sze Yee, Perak State Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee Chairman as well as Mr. Charoen Wangananont, President of the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTAA) as guests of honour.

Mr Mohd Shahrir said: “Malaysia logged 670,861 Thailand tourist arrivals from January to May 2023, representing an increase of 872.8% as compared to the corresponding period last year. In 2022, Malaysia recorded 715,528 tourists from Thailand to Malaysia.”

“Hence, we are very eager to see this positive development as we are targeting to woo 1.36 million Thai tourists this year, and Malaysia has set an overall target of 16.1 million international tourists with RM 46.2 billion in tourism receipt in 2023."

Tourism Malaysia & Partners Participate In ITB CHINA 2023 In Shanghai

 


SHANGHAI, 12 September 2023 – As part of its continuous efforts to promote Malaysia as a preferred tourist destination to the travel industry players in China, Tourism Malaysia today launched its booth at the ITB China 2023 travel tradeshow at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, taking place from 12th to 14th September 2023.

The Malaysian delegation is headed by the Senior Director of International Promotions (Asia/Africa) Division (covering Deputy Director General Planning), Mr Manoharan Periasamy. Tourism Malaysia is joined by two important partners from the states which are Penang Global Tourism and Sarawak Tourism Board. There are a total of 35 organisations which comprise 15 tour operators, 10 hotels and resorts, two (2) state tourism agencies, three (3) tourism associations, two (2) product owners, two (2) airlines and one (1) tourism-related services.

ITB China is the leading B2B-exclusive trade show focused on the Chinese Travel Market, with selected buyers from the Greater China area. This is the third time Malaysia has participated since the show’s inception in 2017. With the opening of the China borders in February 2023, Tourism Malaysia sees the show as a suitable platform for industry players to meet and plan their business strategies for the coming years.

Commenting on the participation, Mr Manoharan Periasamy said, “ITB China is the biggest travel trade show in China and Malaysia is excited to be part of the show again. We are committed to demonstrating Malaysia’s presence in the China market and our readiness to welcome more Chinese tourists to Malaysia. Major Boost For Malaysia’s Tourism In Conjunction With 50th Anniversary Of Malaysia-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations

 


HO CHI MINH CITY, 11 September 2023 – In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Malaysia-Vietnam diplomatic relations this year, Tourism Malaysia is stepping up its promotion to attract more tourists from the Vietnamese market as both countries have basically agreed to cooperate in organising several programmes to make the golden jubilee celebration a success.

Tourism Malaysia is spearheading collaborative efforts in bringing together Malaysia’s travel trade parts, airlines and government representatives by engaging with its counterparts in a Seminar, Business to Business (B2B) Session and Networking Dinner in Ho Chi Minh City today.

Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, said: “Vietnam is one of the top source markets for Malaysia, and we hope Vietnamese tourists will take advantage of the reasonable flight rates to Malaysia in conjunction with this 50 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Vietnam.”

“As of June 2023, Malaysia welcomed 161,795 visitors from Vietnam compared to 173,763 arrivals logged in 2022. This year, we are targeting 300,000 tourist arrivals from Vietnam, and we are optimistic to achieve this number due to the increased number in flight frequencies and intensified promotional activities.”

The Malaysia Pavilion’s concept reflected the unique wonders of Malaysia’s nature and travel destinations with decoration of photos highlighting various tourist destinations and tourism products, including shopping, theme parks, and business events in Malaysia.

Malaysia is eyeing to attract 16.1 million international tourist arrivals this year, with a target of more than RM 49.2 billion in tourism receipts. As of now, the flight frequency from Vietnam to Malaysia is 156 flights per month, with a total of 27,908 seating capacity.
