Sarawak increases flight frequency for CNY

KUCHING: Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has approved additional flights into the state from 307 to 562 flights weekly, starting today.

State Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin said the committee had agreed to increase flight frequency into Sarawak after taking into consideration various factors including Sarawak having moved to Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan and the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.

Apart from that, he said, this would also promote Sarawak tourism industry as the state's daily Covid-19 case has remained low.

To further ease people's entering process into Sarawak, he said all Sarawakians, Malaysians and foreigners who are fully vaccinated and have resided in Malaysia for at least 14 days prior were not required to submit their application to enter the state.

However, they still need to fill the eHealth declaration form upon entry.

"With the approval of additional flights, SDMC has directed all airlines to resume normal and lower fare. Airlines are also reminded to ensure that only fully vaccinated passengers are allowed to board their aircraft to curb Covid-19 infection in Sarawak," he said in a statement today.

Lee said flights entering and arriving in Kuching will be increased from 149 to 279 weekly, Miri (from 61 to 127 weekly), Sibu (from 45 to 83 weekly), Bintulu (from 38 to 59 weekly).

Meanwhile, flights entering Limbang and Mulu will remain with seven flights weekly, respectively.

"It is up to the airlines when to start operating the additional flights."
