Sungai Lombong, Tanjung Kepah poised to be Perak's latest tourism destinations

LUMUT, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The state government has plans to develop Sungai Lombong and Tanjung Kepah in Lekir as the latest eco-tourism and aquaculture tourism destinations in Perak.

State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing said as a preliminary step, the government was working on a major plan to ensure the tourism sites could be developed successfully.

“We don't need a lot of funds but maybe a minimum budget to develop the infrastructure. Now we are identifying the problem, the status of the land whether it involves the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the District and Land Office or the Marine Department.

"We will discuss the master plan for more specific developments, the kind of tourism here as well as efforts to get allocations from the state government and the relevant ministry," he said at a press conference after a visit to the location today.

He said the project also received cooperation from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Seri Iskandar.

"What would be built is the coastal area and we will develop within a range of about four kilometres involving infrastructure and facilities in stages.

"We want a more holistic development as this area has the potential to become the latest eco-tourism and aquaculture attractions," he said.

In addition, Tan said the two areas, which are close to each other, were strategic for development as tourist spots because they are near the Hutan Melintang-Teluk Intan segment of the West Coast Expressway (WCE).

He said being near the WCE would allow locals to generate their economy, especially when both locations attract tourists.
