MITA gearing up for Visit Malaysia 2020 with carnival-like event

SERDANG: In preparation for Visit Malaysia 2020, the Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association (MITA) has announced it will organise a carnival-like event promoting tourism.

Mita president Uzaidi Udanis said the MITA Tourism Carnival 2019 will feature six main activities – a domestic travel exhibition, a foreign travel exhibition, Malaysia Riders 2019, Mita Fun Run, Malaysian

Food Festival as well as an Arts and Culture exhibition.

"This carnival will almost be like a festival. Malaysia is in the top 20 tourist destinations in the world, so we must take this opportunity to strengthen the tourism industry," he said at a press conference here on Wednesday (Jan 16).

The MITA Tourism Carnival 2019 will take place from March 29 to 31 at the Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS).

Uzaidi said that they were targeting 100,000 visitors due to the wide range of events featured.

The MITA Tourism Carnival 2019, held in partnership with the Malaysian Outbound Travel Agent Association (MOTA), will feature up to 800 booths by domestic and foreign travel agents.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy performances and cultural exhibitions from local and international performers.

At the same time, the Malaysia Riders 2019 event, a motorcycle exhibition, is being organised in partnership with Mita and Wyn Wyn Event Sdn Bhd.

It will feature a motorcycle gathering and an exhibition of various motorcycle brands and local motorcycle clubs.

The Malaysia Riders 2019 event, which is targeting up to 300,000 visitors, will also feature an ethical driving campaign organised by government agencies such as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Road Safety Council (MKJR).

Mita honorary secretary-general Adam Kamal, who was also present, said the Malaysia Riders 2019 would also promote motor sports, which is another tourist draw.

"2017 was the last Malaysian GP so this is important for the tourism sector," he said.

The Mita Tourism Fun Run 2019, which will be held for the first time, is targeting 5,000 participants and will take place on March 30 at 7am across the vast driveways in Maeps.

The Malaysian Food Festival, which received the warmest reception in the previous Mita Travel Fair in 2018, will also make a return.

"This festival is popular because it is the only place where you can get food from across the country in one air-conditioned location.

"It will have food from all states. All the food will be fresh and there will be no frozen food," added Adam.

Further details, when available, will be posted on Mita Travel Fair's Facebook page.
