Big boost and big hopes for tourism sector

The tourism sector has received a big boost, with the Prime Minister acknowledging that it has the “highest potential” to generate economic activity in the current climate.
The Government is targeting 30.5 million tourists for 2016 to generate a whopping RM103bil for the national economy.
To woo more tourists, RM1.2bil has been allocated to the Tourism and Culture Ministry.
But what is most interesting is the new online visa application process which is to be implemented mid-2016 beginning with China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the United States and Canada.
This is to better facilitate tourist arrivals to Malaysia.
In a further boost and taking into account the current strength of the ringgit, the 100% tax exemption on statutory income for tour operators will be extended from 2016 to 2018.
People in Sabah and Sarawak can also look forward to GST-exempt domestic economy flights on rural air service routes.
