Johor To Organise Homestay Festival In September

KULAIJAYA, June 12 (Bernama) -- The Johor government is to organise a homestay festival in September to further promote tourism in the state, said State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong.

He said the festival organised with the cooperation of the Tourism and Culture Ministry, Johor office is targeting a participation of more than 1,000 homestay operators.

"There are 18 homestays in Johor involving 386 operators offering 526 rooms to tourists including at Kampung Sri Paya with its 25 rooms," he told reporters at the Student Tourism Carnival at Kampung Sri Paya here today.

According to him, the Johor homestay programme generated RM1.855 million in revenue last year, which was an increase of 24.4 per cent from RM1.491 million in 2013.

Tee said an estimated 55,749 tourists visited homestays in the state last year, compared to 51,886 in 2013. He said of the 55,749 visitors, 32,553 were international tourists while 23,196, domestic tourists.
