Melaka Gateway Set To Bring Back The Glory Days Of Melaka, Says Chief Minister

SINGAPORE, May 3 (Bernama) -- The RM40 billion Melaka Gateway Marina, is set to be the pride of the state, bringing back the glory days of Melaka, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

"This will be the milestone for a journey of a thousand miles, Melaka Gateway will be the pride of Melaka where the past presents the future," he said after witnessing a joint venture agreement signing between Malaysian based Melaka Gateway Marina Sdn Bhd and Singapore/Malaysia based Prometheus Marina and Yacht Services Sdn Bhd to develop Melaka Gateway Marina here Friday evening.

Melaka Gateway is a national project by KAJ Development for the creation of South East Asia's largest cluster of islands boasting premier waterfront residences. With the construction of three new man-made islands, the project will comprise of a total of 609 acres of land and 15 km of scenic waterfront development at the Straits of Melaka.

It will comprise 15 project features including the Malaysia Eye, an international designer street, sunset beach, Malacca cruise shopping gallery, Malacca international cruise and ferry terminal, and the Melaka Gateway Marina.

Speaking to reporters, Melaka Gateway Marina chief executive officer, Datuk Michelle Ong said the project has gained great interest from investors and partners worldwide. "We are taking the first phase now which actually the first island where reclamation work has started. We predict by 2020 our first island is successful completed. Ong said Melaka Gateway is targeted to be fully completed by 2025.

Meanwhile Alan Pickering, Managing Director of Prometheus Marina said that the Melaka Gateway Marina will attract more than just yachtsmen and their families. "It will be a focus for some of the world's great maritime events," he said.

He noted the Melaka Gateway Marina will bring worldwide attention to Melaka through collaborations with the Volvo Ocean Race, the Melaka Yacht Show, and the Power One Power Boat Race. The Sail Malaysia Flotilla will also attract international yachtsmen to enjoy the beautiful waters off Melaka, he said.
