klia2 Witnessed A Smooth Opening And Commercial Operation With The First Arrival And Departure By Malindo And Cebu Pacific

Kuala Lumpur, 2 May 2014 - klia2, the world's largest purpose-built low cost terminal for low cost carriers witnessed a smooth commercial opening and operations, with the first arrival and the first departure flights from the terminal today.

Malindo Air flight OD1027 from Kota Kinabalu touched down at klia2 at approximately 12.05am with 110 passengers on board. Cebu Pacific Airways flight 5J502 to Manila was the first departing flight from klia2 at 1.20am, with 147 passengers on board. Passengers of this flight were also the first to check-in at klia2.

From 2 May the airlines which will operate at klia2 are Malindo Air, Cebu Pacific Airways, Lion Air and TigerAir. AirAsia will move to klia2 by 9 May when all their flights will arrive and depart from the new terminal.

Malaysia Airports expects 7,000 passenger traffic movements daily for the initial phase of operations, and 50,000 passenger traffic movements on 9 May onwards after the move of AirAsia group of airlines to klia2.

With the start of commercial operations at klia2, gateway@klia2 which duals as a public transportation hub and a retail mall was also commercially opened for public. Transportation hub includes fully gated car park which can accommodate 6,000 vehicles and full hospitality services amongst others. It also provides ERL, taxi and bus services which link passengers with a quick and convenient transfer between the city, KLIA and klia2. Gateway@klia2 is also Malaysia first and largest airport mall open to travelers and public to shop, eat & relax with over 200 outlets across 350,000 sq ft of retail space.

The LCCT-KLIA will cease operations after 9 May 2014. For the convenience of passengers departing from the LCCT-KLIA before 2 May and arriving at klia2 after 9 May, complimentary shuttle bus service between klia2 and LCCT-KLIA will be provided by Malaysia Airports from 1st May until 15th May 2014. The shuttle bus will be available every 15 - 20 minutes. The shuttle bus can be boarded at the same location for bus services in LCCT and at Level 1 of klia2 terminal. All public transportation into LCCT-KLIA will be operating as usual until 9 May 2014.

The immigration, security and customs counters at LCCT-KLIA will also continue to operate until 9 May. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines to confirm details of their flights departure to avoid any inconveniences.

Passengers arriving and departing for the first time at klia2 were presented with special souvenirs to commemorate the inaugural event. The event was graced by YB Dato' Ab. Aziz Kaprawi, Deputy Minister of Transport, accompanied by Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Chairman of Malaysia Airports and Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports.
