30 Museums To Participate In International Museum Day Celebration In Shah Alam

KUANTAN, May 3 (Bernama) -- Thirty museums across the country will participate in the national-level International Museum Day 2014 celebration to be held from May 15 to 18 at the Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, Selangor.

Museums Department director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ismail said apart from state museums, Army Museum, Police Museum, Telekom Museum and Fishermen Museum would also take part in the celebration.

"This annual event is aimed at, among others, promoting the roles and functions of museums, while bringing the people closer to the authority entrusted to protect and preserve national heritage," he told reporters at the Sungai Lembing Museum here Saturday.

He said various activities had been lined up for the celebration including exhibition, tour, community programme, carnival, workshop, talks, cultural performance and inter-museum sports competition.

Ibrahim said that the department also hoped that the Melaka Museum Corporation, which would also participate in the celebration, would bring and put on display the two ancients coins discovered during the excavation works in Pulau Nangka last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, he said all museums under the department's management would be open to public free of charge on May 18 in conjunction with the International Museum Day.
