Some 20,000 copies have been produced for free distribution highlighting heritage and nature sites.
They include Kon Yin Temple, which is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Kinta Valley, and Gopeng Museum, which houses artefacts and photographs depicting the town from its colonial era to modern day.
There is also the Hup Teik Soy Sauce Factory, known for producing its distinct and famous soy sauce in earthen jars using a traditional method that has been used since before World War 1. Nature lovers can also look up Gua Tempurung, Gunung Kandu and Gopeng Homestay services. Apart from a trail map with pictures and suggested routes, there is also a short write-up on the history of the town.
The maps, which are in English and written by Adib Vincent Tung Abdullah, also contain snippets of information about each attraction, directions and contact information. The Gopeng heritage trail map is the latest map being distributed by the Perak state government and Tourism Perak. Other maps available include the Ipoh Heritage Trail 1, Ipoh Heritage Trail 2 and Batu Gajah Heritage Trail map.
Meanwhile, the Forestry Department is giving away brochures with information on the state's recreational forests. There are 30,000 copies of brochures for free distribution on three of the 16 recreational forests in the state, namely, Kuala Woh, Ulu Kenas and Matang Mangrove Eco Educational Centre. Visitors can learn about the forests' unique flora and fauna and look out for them on their trails. There is also information on interesting activities to do at the sites.
The Gopeng heritage trail map and guide are available at Tourism Perak booths and certain tourist outlets, while the forest maps are available at the Forestry Department district offices and the recreational forest centres.
