NEW YORK: Noodles will be the feature of the Malaysia Kitchen for the World event to be held here on Sept 27. Touted by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade)as the "ultimate street food celebration", it will be the first-ever Malaysian Noodle Festival featuring a variety of Malaysian noodle-based dishes by restaurants in New York City and the Tri-State area.
The Malaysia Kitchen for the World is part of Matrade's campaign to promote Malaysia's cuisine and restaurants in New York. The event is likely to attract crowds, as the last Malaysian kitchen programme event held at the same venue drew office and other workers during their lunch break or after office hours.
According to Matrade's New York office, the food stalls will have a colourful setting, dotted by tents, umbrellas and exotic lanterns that remind one of the open-air markets in Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Malacca. It says the Malaysian Noodle Festival will feature a wide range of flavours and textures from "laksa" to stir-fried "Hokkien Mee", with the bountiful offerings drawing on Malay, Chinese and Indian influences.
Matrade sources told Bernama that the food will have a nominal price range of USD4 to USD8 (about RM12 to RM24). Matrade has described the Malaysian Kitchen for the World as a global initiative aimed at "educating and informing consumers" about Malaysian cuisine and Malaysian restaurants throughout the world.
