Second ‘Tourist Destinations’ stamp series spotlights three states

The stamps, printed in three se-tenants, are worth 60 sen each
and come in a sheet of 20 pieces for each state.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — In the spirit of admiring the nation’s beauty, Pos Malaysia is immortalising popular tourism spots in Pahang, Perak and Terengganu on stamps to be released on Tuesday.

Among the destinations featured are Istana Abu Bakar and Fraser Hill in Pahang, Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan and Pangkor Island in Perak and Crystal Mosque and Kenyir Lake in Terengganu.

Pos Malaysia stamp and philately unit head Diyana Lean Abdullah said this was a part of the “Tourist Destinations” stamp series which follow the Tourism and Culture Ministry’s Visit Malaysia Year schedule.

“This is a continuation from last year’s series where we highlighted famous attractions in Kedah and Kelantan. Next year will be Sabah and Sarawak’s turn.
“We hope this will help promote and spark the tourism industry,” she told a press conference at the media preview of the stamps at Dayabumi Complex
here yesterday.

The stamps, printed in three se-tenants, are worth 60 sen each and come in a sheet of 20 pieces for each state.

Other philatelic products that come with this issuance are first day covers (32,000 pieces) and limited edition folders (1,800) priced at 55 sen and RM6 respectively.

“The design of the folder is also meant to be educational. On the front, we have photos of other tourism spots in the three states while on the inside, there is a map of Malaysia,” she said.

She said stamp and philately enthusiasts can also get the complete folder set at RM48.85, inclusive of tax.

Diyana said a special cancellation mark will be used on the issuance date featuring the design of a camera, a goggle and a binocular at 98 selected post offices nationwide.

“It is special because these three items are like a must-have when we go traveling. We wanted to pay homage to that,” she said.

Pos Malaysia encourages avid collectors to sign up for its Standing Order Deposit Account (SODA) as to not miss out on future stamp series.

“Some of the stamps are issued on a weekday so we understand that customers may miss out due to other obligations.

“By signing up as a SODA member, your stamps will be delivered straight to your doorstep. You will never have to worry about missing out again, especially when it comes to popular series,” she said.

Students need to make a minimum deposit of RM25 while adults need to have a minimum of RM50 in their accounts to sign up for SODA.
