KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors to this year’s MATTA fair will not only be able to get low fares for their travels. They will also have a chance to win free tickets to five international destinations.
MATTA has announced that visitors who purchase a deal stand a chance to win tickets to destinations that include London.
Its president Hamzah Rahmat told a press conference at its headquarters here that business class tickets to London and to Perth were up for grabs. He said this after naming Malaysia Airlines (MAS) as the official airline.
“MAS has also agreed to give away an additional six tickets to destinations such as Hong Kong, Jakarta and Canton. “We believe this will encourage our customers to buy more tickets,” he said.
Hamzah also said that travel to international destinations would not be subjected to the Goods and Services Tax. “Only those purchasing tickets to domestic destinations will be subject to GST and considering our low fares, the 6% will not be as heavy.
“However those who buy the tickets during the fair to travel anytime from March until the end of the year will not be charged GST,” he said adding that GST will only be effective for purchases after April 1.
On another note, Hamzah said that MATTA as the national travel association had a responsibility to aid the national airline.
“That said, up to 46 out of 60 different agents have been appointed by MAS for the three-day fair at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from March 13,” he added.
MAS regional senior vice-president, Datuk Muzammil Mohamad thanked MATTA and the public for their support saying sales had gone up of late.
“We would just like to call out to all Malaysians to be a part of this fair as we have offers for everyone, starting from those who are price conscious, to those who are willing to splurge. We have so many offers which are ‘hard to refuse’ kind of deals,” he said.
Muzammil said the airline would be offering all-in fares for as low as RM135 for peninsula destinations and RM245 for travel between the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak.
“For Asean destinations, fares start as low as RM250, while trips to Europe will be RM2,499. “Fares for business class seats will start at RM699 for domestic routes,” he said, adding that companies like Golden Holidays and Enrich would be actively involved in providing better travel deals to the people.
