KULIM: The Tourism Ministry has challenged Malaysian businessmen to tap the vast potential in bicycle tourism and come up with star-rated cycling packages.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said they could initiate packages ranging from two-star to six-star at different prices to further promote domestic tourism. “They could offer creative-themed packages incorporated with their bicycle rentals.
“They could have nature trail packages, tourist destination packages or even local food and delicacies packages in their areas,” she said after opening a Kulim Family Fun Ride programme at Tasik Putra here. She said the ministry did not sell products but helped create aware- ness for tourism companies to take up the opportunities. “On my part, I will help promote the cycling packages under our Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia and Malaysia Truly Asia promotions,” she said.
Later, when opening a Tarian Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia event at the Kulim public field, Dr Ng urged local community organisations to form their own tourism committees to organise similar dance events. “Dances, especially cultural ones, attract people, including tourists. “So, if local communities come together to learn some of Malaysia's popular cultural dances, they could then present them to tourists as part of the attractions in their respective areas,” she said.
