Having undergone refurbishment recently, the Grand BlueWave Hotel Shah Alam now sports four room colour schemes for their four types of rooms. Similarly, the floors have also been renovated and redecorated to invoke the feeling of calm for guests.
The 341 rooms comprise 280 deluxe, 89 suites, an executive suite as well as one presidential suite, the last located on the 19th floor.
Categorised into Group, Corporate, Ladies and BlueWave Club floors, the rooms in each of these floors are decorated with their own colour schemes. Green for the Group floors, brown for Corporate, a red/maroon scheme for the Ladies floor while BlueWave Club obviously gets a blue colour scheme. The wall decor in each scheme combine well with the tastefully appointed furnishings and upholstery manage to convey a sense of calm ambience and understated luxury.
The Ladies’ floor may be of interest for single female travellers. After the refurbishment, the entire 17th floor of the hotel is now designated as a women-only zone. According to hotel manager Mohd Ghazali Sayed Ibrahim, this move was to cater to the female business traveller, who often travelled alone or in pairs at most.
“We have 24 rooms on the Ladies floor, so basically we chose warmer colours such as red and pink for the room schemes. However, it’s not just appearance and we’re also focused on our guests’ safety, who comprise mainly of single women corporate travellers. Only female hotel personnel are allowed on that floor for room service and other tasks,” said Mohd Ghazali.
The rooms, equipped with the usual amenties such as IDD lines, a minibar, satellite television and in-room safes, also come with high-speed Internet access and LAN cables for connectivity. Do note however, that guests will need to buy Internet usage time from the hotel, which comes in four options from a block of four hours to even a month’s access.
The room refurbishment exercise which began in April was completed in November at a cost of RM9mil. “We refurbished the rooms floor by floor, so that our operations could continue without too much disruption,” said Ghazali.
He added that after 11 years of business, hotel looked forward to offering five-star hospitality in the heart of Shah Alam, and the room refurbishment was just the beginning. “We’ll begin refurbishing our restaurants in the first quarter of 2012, and there will be new concepts as well,” said Ghazali.
The hotel’s four dining establishments also offer a variety of choice. Those looking for local and Western fare can turn to Semarak Cafe and Borak Borak, while Tung Yuen serves Chinese cuisine, or Agehan, a Japanese establishment which is often frequented by Japanese executives from nearby Japanese-owned factories.
The hotel also offers facilities for grand functions and large conferences, with its Dewan Perdana able to accommodate up to 1,500 people. Six other smaller halls are available for meetings and smaller conferences. With its central location in Shah Alam’s Seksyen 14, the hotel is conveniently located near the Sultan Alam Shah museum. Rooms facing the lake towards the Raja Lumu Recreational Park offer a panoramic view of the iconic Sultan Sallahudin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, which is also within walking distance.
