MAS offering more flights to cope with holiday demand

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines is offering additional flights to cope with the increasing demand during the coming Hari Raya Puasa and Merdeka holidays. The airline is offering an additional 7,764 seats through 34 extra flights and 20 upgraded flights from Aug 26 to Sept 4. “We have increased capacity on a number of demand sectors to cater for travellers who wish to enjoy the festive season with their loved ones or go for a short holiday,” said MAS executive vice-president for commercial strategy Datuk Dr Amin Khan.

“MAS will continue to monitor the situation and add more capacity on sectors where there is further demand,” he said in a statement yesterday. The 34 extra flights will cover domestic travel between Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Tawau, Labuan and Kota Baru.

Meanwhile, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) said train tickets from Singapore and Johor Baru to destinations in the east coast were already sold out. A spokesman said KTM would introduce additional services to the destinations in the east coast to cater for passengers who failed to get their train tickets on normal services. “However, 44,000 seats are still available for journeys from Johor Baru to other destinations,” he said.

Community airline Firefly said it had received encouraging response for flights serving the Johor Baru, Bandung and Surabaya sectors for the coming Hari Raya period. Its Johor Baru station manager Muhammad Hazril Hamzah said demand for tickets began two months ago when the airline opened its bookings for the Hari Raya festival.
