Hot golfers Creamer and Gulbis in town

KUALA LUMPUR: The two “hottest” female golfers in the world Americans Paula Creamer and Natalie Gulbis are in town. They arrived at KL International Airport on Monday and are currently in Sabah visiting the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary.

Their visit is arranged by Sime Darby, the title sponsors of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2011 which will be held from Oct 13-16. Both Creamer and Gulbis will join a host of top-ranked female golfers in the prestigious US$1.9mil (RM5.63mil) tournament.

Gulbis, rated as the sexiest female golfer in the world by FHMmagazine, courted controversy in the past by releasing a calendar in which she posed in swimwear. Frequently the face of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) in America, she finished joint 12th at last year's tournament at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).

Creamer, known as “The Pink Panther” for her penchant for pink outfits on the fairways, is currently ninth in the Women's World Golf Rankings (as at July 25) and second among American lady golfers. She has an impressive nine LPGA victories to her name. Creamer, 25, did not compete in last year's Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia after a thumb injury forced her to withdraw.

“I'm so excited to be touring Malaysia and exploring the wonderful conservation projects led by Sime Darby. It was incredible to go to Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, especially to be there during feeding time! “There's so much to see here. I'm really looking forward to being back in October for this year's tournament,” said Creamer. The itinerary for Creamer and Gulbis for the rest of the week will include visiting the Sarawak Cultural Village, taking a river cruise in Malacca and conducting a clinic for the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia Development Programme players tomorrow at the KLGCC.

Gulbis said: “I look forward to playing in the tournament in October. “Last year's tournament was fantastic and I look forward to being back at KLGCC later this week to play on the course and to speak to the young girls taking part in the development programme. “This week has already been a real eye-opener on Malaysia's wonders.”
