Korean Air To Resume Chartered Flights To Langkawi Next Year

LANGKAWI, June 14 (Bernama) -- South Korea's national carrier, Korean Air, is expected to resume chartered flight services to Langkawi, especially for it's tourists, starting next year. Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) assistant senior manager 1, Hanafi Ahmad said, the assurance was given by officers from the airline company in Seoul recently. He added that the airline had in 2007 serviced the route, catering for chartered flights, but suspended the service following the global economic crisis in 2007.

Hanafi said direct chartered flights from Seoul-Langkawi would become more frequent during summer months, namely July and August. "We have the facilities and capability to handle big carriers since Langkawi has an international airport," he said here Monday. Hanafi added that he and LADA tourism officer Nor Azman Yusof and Tourism Malaysia officials had been to Seoul as part of a promotional tour and to participate in the Korean Travel Fair (KOTFA). According to LADA's statistics unit, about 8,000 South Korean tourists visited Langkawi last year.
