As an outspoken advocate for young people everywhere, Lovato has become a role model by talking openly about her personal experiences and speaking out against bullying among other issues. She was the spokeswoman for the anti-bullying organization, PACER, and was cited for her dedication as a mentor to teens and young adults with mental-health problems at a National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day hosted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in Washington. Then she partnered with CAST Recovery to create "The Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program", which aims to sponsor the people struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues in order to help them seek the right treatment .She also serves as an official Ambassador for the youth empowerment event, We Day and the organization Free The Children. Demi travelled to Kenya for her 21st birthday to participate in a Me to We Trip by Free the Children, she spent time getting to know the local students and working alongside local community members to help build a new Free The Children school.
