Batik Air-Tourism Malaysia Trade Event In Seoul

SEOUL, 26 August 2026 | The Batik Air and Tourism Malaysia Trade Event, held at The Westin Josun Seoul, brought together Tourism Malaysia, Batik Air and key Korean tourism industry stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and create new opportunities to promote Malaysia in the South Korean market.

The event was officiated by YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, and attended by YBhg. Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, Chief Executive Officer of Batik Air, and Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia.

Around 60 Korean travel agents, industry partners and media representatives participated in the event, which comprised a tourism seminar followed by the Batik Air Trade Partner Appreciation Night.

The programme provided an important platform for Tourism Malaysia, Batik Air and Korean tourism industry stakeholders to exchange market insights, explore business opportunities and strengthen cooperation in promoting Malaysia. It also showcased Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings and the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 campaign, while encouraging the development of more attractive Malaysia travel packages tailored to the Korean market.

The collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and Batik Air extends beyond this event through joint promotional activities, tourism seminars, familiarisation trips and consumer campaigns under the Geran Sepadan Penerbangan Charter (GSPC) Matching Grant, supporting efforts to stimulate travel demand and enhance connectivity to Malaysia.

Highlighting the importance of the Korean market, YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said that South Korea remains an important tourism market for Malaysia, and that the partnership with Batik Air plays an important role in strengthening Malaysia’s presence in key source markets, enhancing connectivity and positioning Malaysia as a preferred tourism destination.

Air connectivity remains fundamental to sustaining this growth. As of July 2026, South Korea and Malaysia are connected by approximately 47 weekly direct flights from Incheon and Busan, providing more than 11,000 seats.

Malaysia welcomes greater participation from airlines and charter operators to further expand connectivity from South Korea. Increased air capacity will be instrumental in stimulating travel demand, creating more opportunities for the tourism industry and attracting more Korean visitors to discover Malaysia.

Through stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors, Tourism Malaysia will continue to work closely with airlines and Korean tourism industry partners to turn the momentum of Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 into sustainable tourism growth and further strengthen Malaysia’s position in the South Korean market.

Malaysia Strengthens Australian Travel Trade Partnerships Through Roadshow To Australia

MELBOURNE — In a bold step to further strengthen international tourism ties and amplify momentum for the ongoing Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 (VM2026–2027) campaign, Tourism Malaysia has kicked off an impactful Roadshow to Australia. The roadshow runs in Melbourne (25 August) and Sydney (27 August), bringing together industry leaders and tourism stakeholders to strengthen tourism partnerships and showcase Malaysia’s vibrant tourism offerings under the unifying banner of Malaysia MADANI.

Spearheaded by Mr Mohamad Libra Lee Haniff, Director of International Promotion Division (Americas, Europe and Oceania), the Roadshow to Australia promotes VM2026–2027, the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme, and Malaysia’s medical tourism through the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), in an effort to elevate the nation’s reputation and image as a sustainable and culturally rich travel destination.

The Malaysian delegation comprises 20 organisations, including travel agencies, hotels and resorts, associations, and MM2H agents, united in their goal to boost business opportunities through business-to-business (B2B) meetings, Malaysian Trade Evening sessions, and strategic networking events. Across both Melbourne and Sydney, the roadshow is expected to attract an estimated 300 buyers, further strengthening engagement and expanding Malaysia’s reach within the Australian market. These sessions aim to promote Malaysia’s multicultural appeal, modern infrastructure, and continued commitment to sustainable tourism.

Malaysia remains a leading travel destination in the Australian market, with visitor interest continuing to grow. As of June 2026, Malaysia recorded a total of 252,086 Australian visitors, representing an 8.1 per cent increase compared with 233,147 visitors from the same market in the corresponding period last year. This strong performance reflects the resilience and growing importance of the Australian market in sustaining Malaysia’s tourism momentum and broadening its global appeal.

Mr Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said, “Australia remains one of Malaysia’s key medium-haul markets, and this mission is a timely opportunity to renew partnerships and invite more Australians to rediscover Malaysia. With Visit Malaysia 2026 now in full swing and continuing into 2027, we are intensifying efforts to attract high-value travellers who appreciate our diversity, hospitality, and evolving tourism experiences.”

Through this roadshow, Tourism Malaysia will continue to solidify partnerships with Australian tour operators, airlines, and media, ensuring Malaysia remains a preferred destination not only for holidays but also for long-stay programmes, cultural exchanges, and lifestyle migration.

The Roadshow to Australia serves as a pivotal platform to deepen Australia–Malaysia tourism ties while showcasing Malaysia’s cultural heritage, hospitality, and sustainable offerings, in line with VM2026–2027. This roadshow also reinforces the nation’s standing as a leading travel destination in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting travellers seeking enriching and culturally immersive experiences.

Tourism Malaysia Launches "Taste Of Malaysia – Flavours Of Penang" With Shangri-La Qiantan, Shanghai

SHANGHAI — Tourism Malaysia Shanghai, in collaboration with Shangri-La Qiantan, Shanghai, organised the “Taste of Malaysia – Flavours of Penang” Food Festival, taking place from 21 to 31 August 2026, as part of the continued efforts to promote Malaysia’s diverse culinary culture and support Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 (VM2026–2027).

The event is jointly supported by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Palm Oil Research and Technical Service Institute of the Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) to bring the authentic flavours and multicultural heritage of Penang, which is widely regarded as Malaysia’s food capital, to Shanghai and allow local food enthusiasts to experience the unique allure of Malaysia first-hand.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr. Aaron Gan, Director of Tourism Malaysia Shanghai, and Mr. Dexter Cheng, General Manager of Shangri-La Qiantan. Distinguished guests, including local tourism partners and media representatives, will experience Malaysia’s vibrant culture and culinary heritage through a buffet tasting session and a hands-on batik-making activity.

“Taste of Malaysia – Flavours of Penang” is not only a feast for the palate but also a significant platform for cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia. Penang’s food culture, shaped by centuries of culinary wisdom from Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Eurasian communities, tells a story of migration, fusion, and tradition. This allows guests to explore Malaysia’s tourism highlights, local customs, and world-class hospitality while savouring its diverse cuisine.

The food festival welcomed two distinguished guest chefs from Malaysia: Chef Azhar bin Bah and Chef Lim Chang Wei. Chef Azhar brings over 26 years of culinary experience, having represented Penang in numerous international food promotions and cooked for Malaysian dignitaries. Chef Lim is highly regarded for his expertise in traditional Nyonya cuisine and his dedication to preserving Peranakan culinary heritage. Together, the two chefs will present a curated selection of Penang’s signature delicacies, offering guests an authentic taste of Nanyang flavours.

The strong and growing interest in Malaysia among Chinese travellers is further reinforced by encouraging visitor arrivals and the expansion of air connectivity between China and Penang. From January to June 2026, Malaysia recorded 2.6 million visitor arrivals from China, representing a 17.6 per cent increase compared with 2.2 million visitor arrivals from the same market during the corresponding period last year.

This growing interest is further supported by approximately 69 flights per week from various cities in China to Penang, operated by Shanghai Airlines, Juneyao Air, China Southern Airlines, as well as to strengthen new flights and routes from China. With convenient air connectivity of 771 weekly flights from China to Malaysia, Chinese travellers can enjoy easier access to Malaysia and discover its renowned culinary offerings, vibrant cultural heritage, and distinctive island charm.

As VM2026–2027 gains momentum into 2027, Tourism Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to deepening engagement with the Chinese market through high-quality culinary and cultural events. Such initiatives not only showcase Malaysia’s diverse culinary heritage, but also strengthen destination awareness and encourage more Chinese travellers to discover Malaysia, particularly Penang, as a destination offering rich culinary experiences, vibrant cultures, and warm Malaysian hospitality.

Langkawi targets European and Asian markets to offset flight losses

Langkawi’s loss of two international flights in May, alongside the suspension of services from Bengaluru and Dubai, contributed to a year-on-year decline of around 200,000 tourist arrivals in 1H2026.

Singapore is currently the only international gateway with direct scheduled flights to the island, though China Southern Airlines will commence three weekly services from Guangzhou in December.

Waffa Wahida Zainol, manager of the Tourism Division at Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), said the island is working to rebuild and diversify its air connectivity. Plans include 20 direct charter flights from Warsaw between November and March 2027, alongside discussions with Batik Air to operate charters from Central Asia.

To encourage more services, LADA offers marketing support of up to US$20,000 to operators committing to at least 10 flights per season. The authority is also partnering with Malaysia Airports and Tourism Malaysia to attract carriers from China and India, including ongoing talks with Air India Express for a Delhi route.

Despite current airlift constraints, delegates at PATA Travel Mart 2026 noted that Langkawi maintains strong appeal through its natural attractions, UNESCO Geopark status, and quality accommodation.

Tricia Loh, country manager for Malaysia and Singapore at Discova, highlighted strong interest from France – supported by direct Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and Paris – as well as Central Europe and the Baltics. Discova is also exploring combined itineraries linking the island with Kuala Lumpur and Penang for southern Chinese travellers.

Loh noted that European visitors typically stay four to five nights, attracted by year-round good weather and spacious accommodation.

The island’s resort sector is also expanding with the upcoming opening of the 251-room Hilton Burau Bay Langkawi Resort.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association is organising an October familiarisation trip for Chinese event planners, association leaders, and corporate buyers to highlight Langkawi’s business events potential.

KUCHING — Tourism Malaysia continues to earn international acclaim after securing a PATA Gold Award 2026 at this year's official presentation ceremony organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). The award was presented yesterday at the PATA Gold Awards 2026 Gala Dinner, held in conjunction with the PATA Travel Mart (PTM) 2026 in Kuching, Sarawak.

The award was proudly received by Mr Mohd Akbal Setia, Deputy Director General (Promotions), Tourism Malaysia. Presented in the "Marketing – Travel Video" category, the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign video, titled "Surreal Experiences", highlights the essence of Malaysia’s unique tourism offerings, including its diverse attractions, rich culture, and authentic travel experiences.

The three-minute promotional video encapsulates Malaysia’s unity, harmony, warmth, and cultural diversity. Set to an uplifting soundtrack by renowned local artiste Ernie Zakri, the visual narrative is enriched by soulful lyrics rendered in the diverse languages of Malaysia's multiracial society, a musical celebration of the nation’s enduring harmony. Since its launch in 2025, the video has been featured at major international travel shows, exhibitions, roadshows, and sales missions worldwide to promote Malaysia as a premier global destination.

This recognition comes amidst strong international tourism performance, with Malaysia recording 21.2 million visitor arrivals in the first half of 2026, reflecting a 2.5 per cent growth compared to 20.6 million in the same period in 2025. Key promotional videos such as “Surreal Experiences” play a vital role in sustaining this growth as Tourism Malaysia works towards its target of arrivals for the Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 campaign.

The PATA Gold Awards recognise excellence in tourism marketing and sustainable initiatives across two primary categories: Marketing and Sustainability & Social Responsibility. This year, winners across each category were selected by an independent panel of 25 international judges, with 27 awards presented alongside Grand Title Winners for best-of-show entries.

PTM 2026 offers networking and contracting opportunities to help travel and tourism organisations access key decision-makers, meet new clients, expand market reach, establish new relationships, and consolidate existing business partnerships, further reinforcing its position as a premier B2B travel trade event in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Malaysian sellers comprised six member organisations from the PATA Malaysia Chapter: Malai Adventure Sdn. Bhd., Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), Langkawi MICE Holidays & Tours Sdn. Bhd., FIC Hospitality Sdn. Bhd., World Express (M) Sdn. Bhd., and U2 Travel & Tours Sdn. Bhd.

“As we grow the sector, our focus remains on creating meaningful economic opportunities, strengthening our tourism industry and ensuring that development continues to benefit our communities while safeguarding the cultural and natural assets that make Sarawak distinctive.”

“PATA Travel Mart is about building valuable, quality business connections that extend beyond the event and the opportunities they create that can grow into lasting partnerships,” added PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid. “By taking PTM beyond the region’s traditional gateways, we are deliberately opening international markets to smaller and emerging destinations, helping disperse tourism, broaden economic opportunities and show that the next generation of tourism growth can come from beyond the established hubs.”
