India Among Top Ten Tourist Markets For Malaysia - Nazri
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- India has emerged as one of the top ten tourist markets for Malaysia, said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
He said 770,108 tourists from India were recorded in 2014, a significant increase of 18.3 percent compared to 2013.
"Malaysia has become their choice for leisure and shopping, corporate meetings, incentive trips, filming movies and weddings," he said at The Global Malayalee (TGM) Extravaganza Nite of Awards and Celebration 2015, here Saturday night.
Also present was All Malaysia Malayalee Association (AMMA) president Datuk Suseela Menon.
Mohamed Nazri said Malaysia had also launced the Malaysia Year of Festivals (MyFest 2015) campaign in Mumbai and Chennai in conjunction with the ministry's sales mission to India early this year which covered five cities namely New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad.
"Recognizing India as a strong component of our local business and tourism, Malaysia has supported and witnessed various Indian concerts, events and awards over the past few years, the most recent being the International India film Academy Awards (IIFA)," he said.
Mohamed Nazri said, hosting the TGM truly represented the country's competence and expertise to hold globally-acclaimed events to cater to the region.
The event hosted by (AMMA) was held in conjunction with Tourism Malaysia 2015 Year of Festivals and intended to unite Malayalees from around the world to celebrate the achievements of the community, while reliving the richness of the Malayalee heritage, culture, tradition and language.
Mohamed Nazri said, this inaugural event over three days including a Symposium, Awards Gala Dinner and authentic Kerala Sadhya would be an example for other communities to organise similar events.
"With around 400,000 Malayalees in Malaysia, AMMA together with its affiliates all over the country, did numerous social activites not only for the Malayalee community but all Malaysians," he said.
During the event, 24 notable Malayalee high-achievers received awards for their outstanding achievement in their respective fields such as technology, science, and performing arts.
Among them were President and Chief Executive Officer Siemens Malaysia, Prakash Chandran, AirAsia Group Chief, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and singer-songwriter, Reshmonu.

Malaysians opt for local break this school holiday
PETALING JAYA: Hooray! hooray! it’s a holi-holiday.
Boney M got it right when they sang about “well, I’m game; fun is the thing I’m after”.
Since the start of school holidays last week, Malaysians appear undeterred by the fact that they have to let their wallets have a say in their holiday plans.
Instead of flying off to faraway places, many holidaymakers are opting for road trips.
Businesswoman and mother-of-two Sophia Datuk Ahmad, said she decided to drive to Pahang for the school holidays.
She said her family visited Hong Kong early this year but they had now decided to have fun locally in view of the currency exchange which was not in Malaysia’s favour.
“Since more of my family members will be coming along, it will be cheaper to drive,” said Sophia, 31.
Tourism Malaysia’s “Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia Dekat Je” campaign, launched earlier this year, has been enticing Malaysians to explore their own country.
The campaign sent out the message that a vacation need not break the bank account or involve massive hours flying on the plane and that a road trip could be just as fulfilling.
A 46-year-old teacher and mother of three, who wished to remain anonymous, said her family would drive to Malacca.
“It’s cheaper to drive to Malacca and more convenient to move around,” she said.
Although her decision was influenced by the rising cost of living, she was quick to add that Malacca would have been chosen anyway because she wanted her children to learn about the wonders and culture of the historic city.
MATTA president Datuk Hamzah Rahmat said the travel habits of Malaysians this holiday season had not changed drastically compared to the same period last year.
However, he noted the growing interest in domestic vacations due to efforts like the “Dekat Je” campaign.

Super Taikyu Champions Star Attraction at Sepang 1000km Endurance Race
SEPANG, 26 NOVEMBER 2015 - Powered by the brilliance of three Super Taikyu champions including the reigning 2015 Super Taikyu Champion, Hiroyuki Iiri, Team Riyoz J's Racing Team is the star attraction and hot favourites for the seventh edition of the Sepang 1000km Endurance Race (S1K), which gets underway today.
Iiri, who is also the Japan GT300 champion, will be supported by two-time champion Junichi Umemoto, the 2014 champion Kouichi Okumura and Teruhiko Hamano, who has wide experience in the Super Taikyu series and well as the Nurburgring 24 Hour Endurance Race.
Supported by Pentagon Racing as its local partner, the team, which has just completed the 2015 Super Taikyu season, will be further boosted by their awesome JDM Honda Fit RS machine.
“The race car is the 2015 Super Taikyu Champion car. We are very excited to be part of this team for this great adventure,” commented Chris Tan of Pentagon Racing, which finished second overall in the just concluded Malaysian Championship Series (MCS) with Alan Wong in the Touring Production class.
“In giving our full focus to supporting our Japanese partners, both Alan and I will not be competing this year. We will concentrate fully on providing technical and logistics support to Team Riyoz J's Racing Team,” added Chris.
While acknowledging that the team will have all the necessary components to dominate the 182-lap contest around the 5,543-km track, Chris said that there was still a lot of hard work that needed to be done.
“Sincerely, I would say it is going be a tough race with all the drivers and crew coming all the way from Japan, but we will try our best. There are other really strong teams out there and there’s always that little element of luck in motor racing,” he added.
Defending champion Proton R3 Motorsports, which scored a sensational 1-2 last year, would be among the ones to beat as the factory works team returns with a stronger combination in its bid to retain its crown.
Syafiq Ali, who will be bidding to be the first driver to win the overall title three times this year, will be resuming his partnership with Proton R3 Motorsports team leader, Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel in defending the crown.
The dynamic duo, however, will not be driving last year’s winning Proton Prevé and are instead putting to the test their new Proton Iriz machine, which had performed superbly in the last two rounds of the Malaysian Touring Car (MTC) championship in this year’s Malaysia Championship Series (MCS).
Proton R3 Motorsports’ second pair will be equally impressive with the newly-crowned MTC champion – James Veerapen and Fariqe Hairuman driving their fully-tested winning Proton Suprima S machine.
Both Fariqe and James will be looking for their first individual title and look set to become Syafiq’s biggest threat for his hattrick bid. The two-time Malaysian Super Series (MSS) champion won the S1K crown for the first time in 2012 by partnering former Japan Super GT driver Morio Nitta in a Proton Satria Neo machine.
Commenting on his chances, Fariqe, a seasoned driver with many endurance races under his belt in different parts of the world, expressed confidence of a strong showing in the endurance race and that he and James would be spurred by his glorious run in the MCS.
However, being a season international campaigner, Fariqe, a former Super Taikyu champion himself, was quick to acknowledge that anything is possible in motor racing especially in an endurance race.
“This will be a long race and the main goal is to make it to the finish and finish at the front. We will need to achieve a good balance of speed and reliability and I have confidence that my team has done just that with another strong car prepared for me and James,” added Fariqe, who is a former Asian Tour Car Championship champion.
Another top challenger for this year’s race will be the Kegani Racing Team, which will be powered by the 2010 winners – Malaysian Kenny Lee and Australian Chris O’Shannessy. Driving the team’s lead Suzuki Swift machine, the dynamic duo will be supported by the experienced Nick Mah.
“We have spent numerous hours in engine development. We have big support from TOTAL lubricants, and close collaboration with Super Circuit for the joint development of the M16A engine exhaust system. With T.o.K.B. Café backing us, it has opened up more opportunities for us in our engine and car development. We are definitely aiming for a podium finish in this week’s outing,” said Kenny.
The team’s second Suzuki Swift will be piloted by Mark Wong and ex-Redbull rookies lady driver Geraldine Read.
“I hope to continue gaining more racing experience and the Sepang 1000km is an event not to be missed. I would like to thank my personal sponsors, Lufter - cleanroom builders, Auto Spahaus, Bralt & Maven. I aim to give my best,” said Geraldine, who will be driving the Suzuki Swift for the first time.
Promoted and organised by SIC to spur grassroots development in Malaysia’s motorsports landscape, the event has attracted top Malaysian drivers as well as international racers from Japan, Australia, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
The official free practice for this year’s event is scheduled on Thursday (26 November 2015) with the qualifying session set for the following day on 27 November 2015. The race will be flagged off at 12 noon on Saturday, 28 November 2015.

Sepang 12 Hours Sets Up Exciting Intercontinental GT Challenge
SHAH ALAM, 24 November 2015 – The Sepang 12 Hours 2015 was officially launched today, jointly organised by Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and the SRO Motorsports Group. The event will be part of the new Intercontinental GT Challenge, to be launched in 2016. At the launch, Dato’ Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of SIC and Stephane Ratel, Founder and CEO of the SRO Motorsports Group both stressed the importance of the collaboration for the future of the Sepang 12 Hours.
“We are proud to collaborate with the SRO Motorsports Group in organising the Sepang 12 Hours. By moving the 12-hour endurance race away from August, thus changing its name from the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race, and organising the event at the end of the year, we aim to enable participation by more world class drivers and established endurance race teams. With the SRO Motorsports Group’s vast experience in organising major international endurance and sprint races, we are confident that the race will potentially become a key event in the world endurance racing calendar,” said Dato’ Razlan.
With major teams from both Europe and the Australasian region at the start of the Sepang 12 Hours, the gruelling race has become even more difficult. Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, Honda, Lamborghini, Lexus, McLaren, Mercedes, Porsche, Subaru and Toyota bring the total of prestigious brands on the entry list to eleven, all represented by top teams. All of these exciting racing machines are in the hands of GT- and Touring Car-specialists, with several former (and reigning) champions at the start.
Singapore-based Clearwater Racing will do everything in its power to take its third consecutive overall victory, and with a driver line-up including last year’s winner Gimmi Bruni, triple Sepang 12 Hours-winner Mok Weng Sun, 2015 Blancpain Endurance Pro-Am champion Matt Griffin and GT World championship stalwart James Calado, the #1 Ferrari deserves its status of favourite.
But the competition will be tough. With Maxi Buhk, Vincent Abril, Stéphane Ortelli, Laurens Vanthoor, Christopher Mies and Christopher Haase all on the entry list, there are several Blancpain GT Series champions at the start, all competing for factory supported entries from Audi and Bentley. And that is not all. The McLarens of FFF Racing Team by ACM should not be counted out, nor should be Team AAI HubAuto’s Mercedes, with Japanese aces Hiroki Yoshimoto and Nobuteru Taniguchi at the wheel. In addition, Peter Kox, former winner of the B-Quick Racing Audi R8 Cup and local hero (and former F1-racer) Alex Yoong will be in action.
Stephane Ratel. Founder and CEO of the SRO Motorsports Group said, “We are extremely happy to see that our cooperation with the Sepang International Circuit on the Sepang 12 Hours project is bearing fruit. This is an important event for us, since we want to create high profile GT3 events in the Asia-Pacific region. This year, the Sepang 12 Hours will still be run as a stand-alone event, but next year it will play an important part in the success of the Intercontinental GT Challenge.”
At the Sepang 12 Hours 2015 launch, the Intercontinental GT Challenge, to be launched by the SRO Motorsports Group in 2016, was also introduced, together with the series’ new logo. The Sepang 12 Hours joins the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, Circuit of the Americas 6 Hours and Total 24 Hours of Spa in the inaugural calendar of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the first-ever global GT3 Series. This new Challenge is aimed at manufacturers, who are encouraged to use local teams to represent them in these leading GT3 races, as it is more cost- and time-effective to fly engineers and drivers rather than cars and equipment around the world.
John Casey, the Event Director for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour commented, “The Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour is one of the most prestigious motorsport events in the world and we are excited to be joining other iconic events in the International GT Challenge. The Challenge will bring significant international exposure to the race at one of the world’s most famous circuits. The race will also feature some of the leading drivers from Australia and around the world and is an event motorsport fans won’t want to miss.”
Both a manufacturers’ and a drivers’ title will be awarded in the Pro category, while a Drivers’ title will be awarded in Pro-Am. The events will all have common technical regulations and the BOP will be managed by SRO. The Intercontinental GT Challenge will represent the highest achievement in long distance GT racing. By uniting these iconic events in one series, the level of racing at each round will certainly increase, improving the attractiveness of the event to fans, sponsors, media, drivers and teams alike. Substantial television coverage is also expected across the world.
Calendar for Intercontinental GT Challenge
Australia – 6-7 February 2016 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour
USA – 5-6 March 2016 Circuit of the Americas 6 Hours
Belgium – 28-31 July 2016 Total 24 Hours of Spa
Malaysia – 10-11 December 2016 – Sepang 12 Hours

State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park included the islands off Mersing which were not only beautiful but also rich in a variety of unique marine life.
"Johor National Parks Corporation (PTNJ) is collecting data on the habitat and marine life at the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park to be published in brochures, compact discs and on the corporation's portal.

Discovery Channel Gives A Unique Insight Into Sultan Of Perak's Enthronement
PUTRAJAYA, 24 November 2015 – Tourism Malaysia is collaborating with Discovery Networks once again to present the traditions and customs of the Royal family as a tourist attraction to the world. Viewers can tune in to Discovery Channel (South East Asia & Malaysia) on 27 November to gain a special insight into one of Malaysia’s oldest and most prestigious events - the Sultan of Perak’s enthronement.
The documentary, titled “Revealed: The Throne of Perak, Malaysia”, follows His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah’s journey as he carries out a series of royal ceremonies as a necessary rite of passage to be enthroned as the 35th ruler of Perak Darul Ridzuan, the Abode of Grace.
Performed generation after generation over hundreds of years, the enthronement symbolises both new beginnings and the continuity of time-honoured traditions. In the wake of the legendary Malacca Sultanate, its descendents established a new royal identity in Perak that has continued an unbroken journey for nearly five centuries. What makes the enthronement tradition of this Malaysian state standout is its profound symbolism of the Perak River. Beginning in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar, this is a journey rich with elaborate rites and regalia, including visits to ancestral tombs that open fascinating chapters into the unique history of Perak. A story that reveals just how intrinsic and innate the royal identity is to the Abode of Grace.
Both Tourism Malaysia and Discovery Networks have collaborated previously to produce similar documentaries, namely ‘Revealed: Malaysia’s Royal Rites (2010)’ and ‘Revealed: Malaysia’s Majesty, Twice A King (2013)’.
Do not miss this interesting documentary on Discovery Channel (South East Asia & Malaysia) this Friday, 27 November, from 10pm to 11pm.

European EurAsia Cup Team Takes Shape
European Captain Darren Clarke |
Shah Alam, Malaysia, November 24: European captain Darren Clarke today unveiled his ten automatic qualifiers to take on Asia in the second edition of the EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM, with Race to Dubai runner up Danny Willett and Ryder Cup stars Victor Dubuisson and Ross Fisher included in the line-up.
World Number 20 Willett, who pushed Rory McIlroy to the wire in season-long Race to Dubai after two victories in the 2015 campaign, is one of five Englishman to qualify as the leading ten available players from the final 2015 Race to Dubai rankings.
The 28 year old is joined by Fisher, who has plenty of match play pedigree after representing Europe in the 2010 Ryder Cup and playing in the Seve Trophy twice; alongside Dubuisson who was a revelation in his Ryder Cup debut at Gleneagles last year, notching 2 ½ points out of a possible three, after representing Europe in the inaugural EurAsia Cup earlier that year.
Joining them are two-time European Tour winner Chris Wood, who also featured in the Seve Trophy in 2009 and 2013; Andy Sullivan, a three-time winner in 2015 who pushed McIlroy all the way in last week’s DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, and 21 year old Matthew Fitzpatrick, who recorded ten top ten finishes in his rookie European Tour season, including a brilliant breakthrough win in the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.
The quintet is join by Ireland’s Shane Lowry, who claimed the biggest win of his career to date with victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August; Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who captured his third European Tour title in July’s Alstom Open de France; four-time European Tour winner Søren Kjeldsen of Denmark, who lifted the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation in May and who has featured in two Seve Trophy matches, and Sweden’s Kristoffer Broberg, who claimed his maiden European Tour title in the BMW Masters two weeks ago.
Clarke will add his two captain’s picks to the final line-up in two weeks’ time to compete against Jeev Milkha Singh’s Asia team at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, in Kuala Lumpur, from January 15-17, 2016.
The Northern Irishman said: “I am delighted with the make-up of the team. It may be a relatively young one, but it is extremely strong and packed with experience. All the players have tasted success and are very talented so there is every reason to go to Kuala Lumpur with confidence.
“The EurAsia Cup also offers many of our players the opportunity to enhance their prospects of making next September’s Ryder Cup team. It’s also a good chance for me to see how comfortable they are with and in a team environment.
“Team Europe have always had a very strong team ethos and I will expect nothing less this time. We know the strength of the Asian side and the difficulty of the task facing us, but I also know our team will be up to the challenge.”
Clarke’s team will attempt to win the EurAsia Cup for the first time after the inaugural contest, also played at Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in March 2014, ended in a thrilling 10-10 draw. With the teams increased from ten players to 12, the second edition will now feature 24 matches rather than 20, with day one consisting of six fourball matches, followed by six foursomes matches on day two and 12 singles matches on the final day.
The winning team will share prize money of US$3.6 million while the runners-up will share US$1.2 million.
Europe’s opposition in Malaysia will be finalised next month, with Singh’s team formed from the leading four available Asian players from the 2015 Asian Tour Order of Merit as of December 14, the leading four eligible and available Asian players from the Official World Golf Ranking as of December 14, and four captain’s picks.

Malaysia Welcomes Luxury Cruise Ship Mein Schiff 1
KLANG, 23 November 2015: Mein Schiff 1, a Century class cruise ship, owned and operated by TUI
Cruises, made her maiden call today to Boustead Cruise Centre (BCC), Pulau
Indah, at 0800 hrs.
The vessel, which sailed from Langkawi on 22
November, arrived with a total of 1870 passengers and 909 crew members. They received
a warm welcome reception from Tourism Malaysia with bunga telur and cultural
performance by Jabatan Kesenian Negeri Selangor, as well as musical performance
by the Balle-Balle group.
As part of the cruise ship’s 22-night voyage
from Dubai to Singapore, she had earlier made a stopover at Muscat, Oman;
followed by Mumbai, India; and Colombo, Sri Lanka. The vessel will leave Klang
at 1800 this evening and heads to Singapore.
The welcome reception by Tourism Malaysia is
an effort under its Maiden
Call programme, an annual activity to welcome ships berthing for the first time
in Malaysia. It is part of Tourism Malaysia’s efforts to promote cruise tourism
and to attract more ship operators to berth in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, in
particular.
Laid down at the Meyer Werth shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on 25 May 1995, the vessel measured 259.70 m in length and a passenger capacity of 1,870 (lower berths) and 2,681 (all berths). Having originally served with Celebrity Cruises in 1996, and later renamed Celebrity Galaxy in 2008, she was transferred to the fleet of TUI Cruises in 2009. Mein Schiff 1 offers a wide range of entertainment, leisure, and sport amenities, which makes every sailing an enjoyable and memorable experience for both adults and senior citizens.
Over the last few years, Malaysia has
seen an encouraging number of cruise ships calling at the country’s ports. Last
year, a total of 421 international cruise ships with 352,322 passengers called
at the country’s six primary ports, namely Port Klang, Penang, Melaka, Langkawi,
Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. From January
to May this year, a total of 268 international cruise ships called. For the
same period, the country received 247,624 cruise passengers.
Developing cruise tourism
has been outlined in the Tourism National Key Economic Area (NKEA), under its
sixth Entry Point Project (EPP) – Creating a Straits Riviera Cruise Playground.
In an effort to capitalise on an international cruise passenger market that has
grown at an average of 14% annually in the past 10 years, this EPP will see the
development of a Straits Riviera, comprising the six primary ports and other
secondary ports.
