Tourism Malaysia Lancar E-Risalah Minat Khas ‘BIRDWATCHING PARADISE MALAYSIA’

Tourism Malaysia Embraces The Modern Workplace With Support From Microsoft

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 Oktober 2022 – Tourism Malaysia, the agency responsible for promoting Malaysia both domestically and internationally, has teamed up with Microsoft Malaysia to boost productivity and improve team collaboration while accelerating its digital transformation journey by leveraging Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure.

With 6 regional offices, 15 tourist information centres, 30 overseas offices, and 6 marketing representatives across the world, consistency in operational performance and delivery are crucial for Tourism Malaysia’s success. Tourism Malaysia needed not only a unifying platform that eases collaboration between its many teams across different markets, but also one that is highly secure and offers a smooth user experience.

With the integration of Microsoft 365 across all its domestic and overseas offices, Tourism Malaysia’s global workforce can better coordinate and optimise inter-departmental collaboration, ensuring all data is secure and protected by Microsoft’s security capabilities.

Utilising tools like Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Exchange, Tourism Malaysia employees have access to a singular platform that enables real-time collaboration even amongst colleagues situated at opposite ends of the world. By leveraging cloud features, employees can also share files of all types and sizes without having to worry about email disruptions and overloaded servers.

YBhg. Dato Hj Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia said, “We are excited for new opportunities ahead now that Malaysia has reopened its borders. Following a new strategic marketing plan, including a digital strategy, we are confident that Malaysia’s tourism industry will bounce back and return even stronger. Together with Microsoft Malaysia, we hope to become a leading government agency that embraces digital technologies to better serve our industry partners and potential tourists.”

The experience inspired Tourism Malaysia to take the collaboration with Microsoft Malaysia one step forward – hosting its ‘Pakej Cuti Penjawat Awam’ campaign, powered by Microsoft Azure. The campaign targeted civil servants to encourage them to travel domestically by offering attractive tour packages.

This was not the only initiative undertaken by Tourism Malaysia with the support of Microsoft Malaysia. When the pandemic happened, the global agency had to digitise its tourism activities and plans – and it had to do this fast. As part of its ‘Menemui Semula’ campaign, Tourism Malaysia coordinated various programs via digital platforms to support its partners, vendors, and agencies in weathering the pandemic.

Through the integration of Microsoft Power BI in measuring the performance of its multiple programs, Tourism Malaysia was able to track their businesses – even across borders – more accurately and efficiently, aligning these findings with domestic business operations, further enabling them to not only optimise spendings but also respond to potential issues promptly.

Microsoft Malaysia’s General Manager of Public Sector Group, Sheikh Manzoor shared, “Tourism Malaysia plays an important role in driving growth for the nation’s economy. We are proud to support their purpose through Microsoft’s trusted technologies. We have heard from Tourism Malaysia on their aspirations to revive the tourism sector and it is inspiring to see how they leverage digital tools to bring them closer to this goal,”

“We are excited to explore different ways to help communities and businesses from both the public and private sectors, to achieve more with technology and realise the Government of Malaysia’s MyDIGITAL aspirations as well as bring to life Microsoft’s Bersama Malaysia commitment,” concluded Sheikh.

Tourism Malaysia And Sarawak Tourism Board Gained International Recognition At PATA Gold Awards 2022

PUTRAJAYA, 13 October 2022 – The Malaysian tourism industry once again gained international recognition at this year’s PATA Gold Awards organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association. Malaysia won three out of 23 Gold Award categories presented, namely the Travel Photograph, Travel Video, and Culture.

Tourism Malaysia bagged the Travel Photograph Gold Award through its mesmerising photo entry of a man flying a wau, Malaysia’s traditional kite by the coast of Terengganu. Capturing one of the most recognisable symbols of Malaysian culture, flying a wau is both a cultural icon and a valuable part of the country’s cultural heritage.

The objective of the award-winning photo is also to capture the unique craft of a wau, from witnessing its creation to watching it soar through the air would be an awe-inspiring and one-of-a-kind experience. Even in modern times, it is not uncommon to see people in Kelantan and Terengganu flying kites, particularly when it is harvest time.

Sarawak Tourism Board, on the other hand, deservingly landed two Gold Awards from the Travel Video and Culture categories. Its promotional video titled “A Journey Awaits” by Faithworks Studios won the Travel Video Gold Award, which invites travellers to Sarawak through its portrayal of the state’s enchanting beauty, culture, heritage, and natural wonders.

The virtual experience of the 2021 Rainforest World Music Festival organised by Sarawak Tourism Board also won the Culture Gold Award, a creative twist that allowed music lovers to enjoy the festival from the comfort of their homes during the pandemic. The festival brought forward Sarawak’s traditional music and culture on a virtual, no-entrance-fee-required festival for all to enjoy.

Sime Darby keen to open plantation for tourism

KUNAK: The Kunak Tourism Association is keen to work with Sime Darby plantations to open its plantations' attractions for tourism.

Among them are Tasik Impian, a former Japanese tunnel, the oil palm museum that houses some of the oldest oil palm trees and the Sungang hot spring, all of which are currently off-limits to the public.

Sabah Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said Sime Darby's enormous land had great potential for tourism.

"While Sime Darby's primary business is in plantations, we believe it will be in the company's best interests to consider exploring opportunities to work with the local community and promote tourism in the area."

Joniston said the Sabah Tourism Board is ready to facilitate collaborations that benefit the people of Kunak and the local economy, as well as the state's tourism sector.

Kunak Tourism Association chairman Mohammad Hatta Arabi said agriculture is the primary sector in Kunak, covering 1,134 sq km, with tourism making up only one per cent of the economy.

He said Kunak is full of surprising treasures, and the association is dedicated to boosting rural tourism, including collaborating with commercial or government-linked companies whose areas have considerable tourism potential.

Currently, Kunak's main attractions are the Madai Cave, Blue Ring Reef and Madai waterfall.

In addition, the Kunak Tourism Association, Kunak District Tourism Action Council and Kunak Forestry Department are also pushing for the upgrading of the Madai Sejadi waterfall and developing community-based tourism in the Madai Cave vicinity.

Present were Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Seri Dr Anil Jit Singh Sandhu and Sabah Tourism Board's product team.

Tourism Malaysia & Traveloka Collaborate To Showcase Malaysia As Preferred Holiday Destination

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 October 2022 – Tourism Malaysia is collaborating with Traveloka on a smart partnership campaign to promote the country as the holiday destination of choice.

The four-month campaign, which invites individuals to enjoy Malaysia’s multicultural attractions, scenic locations, diverse cuisine and renowned hospitality, will exclusively harness Traveloka’s innovative travel and lifestyle platform, which offers one of the most comprehensive, seamless and personalised user experiences in the industry.

The campaign, which ends 31 December 2022, will also provide holidaymakers redeemable offers and promotions from Traveloka, to enable them to book memorable holidays.

Aimed at increasing the number of holiday bookings and supporting tourism recovery efforts, the collaboration comes at an opportune time as Malaysia sees an uptick in domestic and regional post-pandemic travel after the lifting of international border restrictions.

The strategic alliance between Traveloka, Southeast Asia’s travel and lifestyle platform and Tourism Malaysia, also emphasises and fulfils the National Tourism Policy’s focus on digitalisation. Online campaigns have been found to be the most convenient and popular way to attract consumers, especially today’s digital-savvy individuals.

The campaign is also in line with Tourism Malaysia’s Strategic Plan 2022-2026, which sees the agency focusing on partnerships to promote the use of digital technology. More than that, however, the fully-online experience will empower the region’s fast-growing, highly-aspirational middle class to book stays in Malaysia effortlessly and conveniently, via Traveloka’s core travel offering and its comprehensive suite of products and services.

Malaysia has set a target of 9.2 million international tourist arrivals this year and RM26.8 billion in receipts.

“Forging smart partnerships with industry players is crucial to boost the recovery of the tourism sector. They are the backbone of the industry, and by working with influential brands and unicorns like Traveloka, we record higher tourist arrivals, maximise resources and elevate our distribution channels to promote Malaysia domestically and regionally,” said Dato’ Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, Director General of Tourism Malaysia.

“We are delighted that local travel agents foresee domestic tourism rebounding faster than anticipated due to more people finding the confidence to travel, with 95% of Malaysia’s adult population being fully-vaccinated against COVID-19, and new cases decreasing. Tourism Malaysia will continuously work hand-in-hand with our partners to ensure domestic tourism demand returns to its pre-pandemic levels of 2019 as early as the fourth quarter of 2022.”

“Four main markets have been identified to implement this campaign which are Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia (for the domestic market) with an average booking target of 39,500 in a duration of four months starting from September until December 2022.”

Angelica Chan, Country Manager, Traveloka Malaysia, said: “Traveloka has always supported the government’s efforts toward tourism recovery, and we are extremely pleased to collaborate on this smart partnership campaign with Tourism Malaysia and simultaneously reinforce our position as one of Southeast Asia’s leading travel and lifestyle platforms.

“Working closely together, we aim to exponentially increase the number of bookings via the numerous features available on our platform and help locals and regional visitors fulfil their lifestyle aspirations and needs, whether it's enjoying authentic Malaysian cuisine, attractions, wellness and spa, or every other experience that defines our unique country.”
