PUTRAJAYA, 7 SEPTEMBER 2018: Tourism
Malaysia is participating in China International Tourism Industry Expo 2018
(CITIE) in Guangzhou from 7th to 9th September, to promote Malaysia as a
preferred tourist destination.
The Malaysian delegation, led by Tourism Malaysia Senior
Director of International Promotions (Asia
and Africa) Datuk Musa Yusof, consists of 15 organisations, which includes
state tourism board, airline, tour operators, product owners and Tourism
Malaysia officials. Among them are Resorts World Genting, Desaru Coast and
Legoland Malaysia Resort.
CITIE is China's largest comprehensive international tourism
exhibition that will see the participation of nearly 3,000 companies from 55
countries with 20,000 professional buyers. Since its inception in 2005, the key
objectives of CITIE is to offer a professional platform for international
tourism industry players to network, share information as well as develop their
business, with focus on both business to business (b2b) and business to
consumers (b2c) segment.
Malaysia’s participation in the exhibition provides an avenue
for Malaysia tourism industry players to network and solicit for new business
with the Chinese counterparts. It is also a platform to update industry players
of Malaysia’s latest tourism developments and strengthen awareness on Malaysia
as an ideal holiday destination for this market.
The Malaysia Pavilion, which features family-oriented
destination and theme park design, will be launched by Datuk Musa today. The
occasion will also be graced by the Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou,
Beh Ching Chye, Governor of Guangdong Province, Ma Xingrui, as well as Tourism
Malaysia Director of Guangzhou, Sharon Ho Siew Nyoon, and other government
representatives from both Malaysian and China.
Visitors to the Malaysia Pavilion will be entertained by Briged
Seni Melaka, a cultural dance group, showcasing Malaysian traditional dance
performances. Guests will also get to see a “teh tarik” demonstration by Teh
Tarik Tourism Ambassador Mior Sazali Mat Ali who will amaze audiences with his
special tea “pulling” show.
Malaysia’s popular white coffee drink will also be made
available for visitors to sample at the pavilion. Visitors will also get a
complimentary fun map of Malaysia highlighting family-friendly attractions in
the country.
Other programmes scheduled throughout the duration of the sales
mission are business-to-business sessions, networking dinners and tourism
product presentations.
China is a top ten market for Malaysia, with a total of
2,124,942 tourists recorded in 2016. In 2017, the number of tourists increased
to 2,281,666. In 2018, from January to April, a total of 1,008,998 tourists
from China have been recorded, showing a jump of 37.2% compared to the same
period last year (735,618).
Tourism Malaysia has a dedicated officer stationed in Guangzhou
to handle the promotion of Malaysia in this market. The Malaysian ambassador in
China has also been instrumental in the promotion of Malaysia as a holiday
destination for Chinese.
Currently, there are 108 weekly flights operated by China
Southern Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, AirAsia from Guangzhou to
Malaysia offering 17,222 seats.
