KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu is targeting
to woo a huge slice of the annual 70 million air travellers at the Kuala Lumpur
International Airport in Sepang.
Revealing its ambitious plans, state
tourism department director Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak said that this
could be achieved through the forthcoming ‘Joyful Malaysia @ KLIA & klia2’
promotional campaign.
The campaign, held in conjunction with
‘Visit Beautiful Terengganu 2017’ will run Friday to Sunday, between 10am and
10pm, from Friday till Oct 29.
“We will showcase the delights of
Terengganu from food, beverage, dances, music, handicraft, culture, heritage
and tour packages, apart from our alluring and idyllic island escapades in the
South China Sea.
“This will be done at Terengganu pavilions
at the foyers of both KLIA (with 25 million annual passengers) and klia2 (45
million passengers), via travel and tour agents who will be roped in along with
small-and-medium enterprises.
“The idea is for local and foreign
travellers passing through KLIA to experience the extravaganza of the sounds,
colours and faces of Terengganu,” he said at the Duyong Marina and Resort
Terengganu.
Faisal said that Malaysia Airports Berhad
had consented to permit promotion of the ‘Joyful Malaysia @ KLIA & klia2’
via its internal electronic media platforms at the airport terminals.
Additionally, he said the Federal
Agriculture Marketing Authority had also agreed to promote Terengganu’s
agro-based produce from local entrepreneurs.
“Terengganu is targeting five million
tourist arrivals this year and we have achieved half the number so far.
“The bigger picture is to assist the
country towards the 36 million tourist arrivals by ‘Visit Malaysia Year 2020’
and help boost the national tourism revenue and foreign exchange,” said Faisal.
As part of the ‘Joyful Malaysia @ KLIA
& llia2’ campaign, various events have been lined up as side shows
including traditional song and dance performances from Terengganu’s various
districts, gamelan demonstration, batik fashion parade, songket weaving and
handicraft workshops, and village buskers.
“We hope these efforts will help spur the
tourism and related industries, provide job opportunities and improve the
socio-economy of the locals, in line with the New Terengganu Transformation
initiative.
“We are confident that such unique
promotions will assist Terengganu in the long term to be globally competitive,”
said Faisal.
