Tourism Selangor’s Discover Selangor campaign has created a strong platform for the state attractions in the global and local tourism market.
Aimed at promoting Selangor as a tourism conduit, the campaign highlights all the best attractions the state has to offer.
Tourism Selangor general manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din said the target number of tourist arrival in Selangor this year was 7.2 million visitors.
“The state has recorded over 7.1 million visitors in 2015, and so far until June this year, we received over 5.03 million visitors,” said Noorul Ashikin.
Tourism Selangor has played host, since early last year, to many exciting events and activities in the towns and cities across the state.
“These new attractions and activities, with proper planning, would be able to woo more tourists to Selangor,” said Noorul Ashikin.
She added the biggest tourist group visiting Selangor came from Singapore followed by Indonesia.
According to Noorul Ashikin, Tourism Selangor had conceptualised and highlighted a series of tourism events in the state.
This was targeted at accelerating the growth of Selangor’s tourism industry as well as stoking the state’s economy.
She said Tourism Selangor has also drawn up a comprehensive plan for 2017 for the state to boost and further strengthen its tourism industry.
Among the highlights of the events that have been lined up for next year are the Malaysia Women Marathon 2017 taking place from March 10 to 12, the Selangor International Indigenous Arts Festival 2017 on Aug 6 and 7 as well as the Klang Art Fest 2017 in September.
“The hosting of these annual events and festivities in the state is part of what Tourism Selangor describes as a wider strategy in diversifying its all year-round tourism offerings for both domestic and foreign visitors,” said Noorul Ashikin.
On the Discover Selangor campaign, she said Tourism Malaysia hopes to get even more tourists to experience the fun and enriching experiences available in the state.
“Armed with the tagline ‘Heart of Malaysia’, the campaign offers new and returning visitors a complete experience of Selangor’s attractions – in sports, medical and business tourism,” she added.
Meanwhile, Klang MP Charles Santiago hoped Tourism Selangor would engage the Klang Municipal Council to further strengthen the royal town as a tourist spot.
“Having The Klang Art Fest 2017 is a good decision as art and crafts are major elements in the tourism industry globally now,” he said.
He added that Tourism Selangor should look at rehabilitating the fishing villages around Klang as well as other parts of the state to attract tourists.
“There are many possibilities to explore such as home stays and there could be fishing trip packages for tourists as well.”
