First Labuan International Kite Festival 2019 draws 14 foreign entries

LABUAN, Sept 4 -- The first edition of the Labuan International Kite Festival 2019 has received overwhelming response with 63 kiters including 34 from 14 foreign countries having registered for the event.

The three-day event jointly organised by Labuan Corporation and Majlis Pelayang Malaysia (MPM) kicks-off on Sept 6 at the seaside of Palm Beach Resort and SPA Manikar.

The huge windy open space of the Manikar beach that faces the South China Sea means ideal consistent flying condition for kiter enthusiasts.

Among the registered foreign entries are Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Sweden, Scotland, Thailand and United States of Amercia.

The Malaysian kiters are from Sarawak, MAS Malaysia, Pelayang Johor, Presiden MPM, MPM, Putrajaya, Kelantan and USM.

Labuan Corporation Tourism, Culture and Arts Department officials said this festival will soon be another tourism product of Labuan.

“There will be amateurs and professionals joining in the fun and most of them will also bring along their entire families to Labuan,” said one of the officials.

She said Labuan welcomes fans of kite flying from all over the countries who bring their own pieces of kite making art.

“We will witness in the next two days the various eye-catching kites, with most of them being in diamond shape with various colors, and look like many kinds of animals or birds.

She said the objective of the event is showcasing the beauty of traditional and modern kites, celebrating creativity and attracting foreign tourist to the duty-free-island.

  2. Informative post! I never thought that Kite Festivals are celebrated in other countries as well. Nevertheless, I will be enjoying the kite festival 2020 Jaipur with my family. I hope my kids will have a great time.
