Malaysian Independent Live Fusion Festival 2016 ( MILFF 2016) By Mojo Projects ( 22 October 2016 )

This festival brings to Malaysia a “never-been-done-before” performance of South India’s Top 50 musicians and vocalists. These are independent artistes and film industry related instrumental performers and background vocalists. There will be 5 fusion bands performing at the indoor StarXpo Centre, Kuala Lumpur trying to compete and outperform each other. Though this is not a competition, the professional courtesy and competitions amongst the artistes will see a brilliant showdown of musical magic on 22 Oct 2016.

Kicking off the festivities will be world-renowned Malaysian world music ensemble AkashA. AkashA is a 7-piece Malaysian band, playing music straight from the heart. You could call it World Music, but it’s more than that. Like Malaysia itself, AkashA is a fusion of four cultures - Malay, Indian, Chinese, and Western.

Masala Coffee (MC) then takes over the stage. Masala Coffee burst onto the independent music scene with its’ eclectic mix of songs. The band has dished out songs of all genres - ranging from rock to melody to folk. Led by the soothing voice of Sooraj Santhosh, they have an amazing viewership on You Tube, specifically on the Music Mojo channel.

Taking over from Masala Coffee will be Tamil Cinema’s mainstay playback singer Haricharan featuring the musical styling of Bennet & The Band. Bennet and the Band specializes in genre based re-orchestration of popular melodies, Indian film tunes and traditional folk melodies for which the band uses session musicians lined up according to the type of music they need to play for the singer with whom they are jamming.

Karthik and the Krew will then entertain the crowd with popular numbers from Kathik’s extensive list of cinema favourites. He has sung in multiple languages including Telugu (over 500 songs), Kannada (over 300 songs), Tamil (over 1000 songs) and in other languages like Malayalam, Bengali and Hindi. Karthik is known for his versatility in the industry, which gave him opportunity to sing a variety of songs before the night is taken over by Thaikuddam Bridge. Thaikkudam Bridge is a Kerala-based music band, founded and formed in 2013 by cousins Govind Menon and Siddhartha Menon. The band became first famous through the music show Music Mojo, which is telecast on Kappa TV and their own composition "Fish Rock", which became popular through social media networking sites and YouTube, having garnered millions of views. The band does not have a specific genre and performs in various genres.
