Go Local, Tourism Minister Tells Sabah Resort Operators

TUARAN, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Just go local and bring in the tourists.

This was the clarion call of Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz when he urged operators to use local names for Sabah resorts and places which offer tourism activities.

He said it was imperative to promote the locations so that they become well-known, making it easy for tourists to locate them.

"Do not use names that imitate western countries because they are not suitable...it is better that we name a tourist spot after a local village," he added.

Mohamed Nazri was speaking to reporters after attending a tourism event at Kampung Poturidong in Kiulu near here today.

Also present was Sabah Tourism Board chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who is also Kiulu state assemblyman.

On the international level, Mohamed Nazri said the ministry would continue to promote tourism in the Land Below the Wind.

"We know that many foreign tourists, especially from China come here. They love the culture, food, nature and hospitality of the Sabah people.

"The ministry will continue to support activities related to the state's culture and tourism," he added.
