DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team rider Jakub Kornfeil will start tomorrow’s Czech Grand Prix in front of his home crowd from a solid 10th position. With a strong start the 23-year-old is confident he has what it takes to fight for his best finish of the year.
Teammate Adam Norrodin secured a respectable 21st place on the grid in today’s Moto3 qualifying. Despite a crash in yesterday’s first practice session hindering the rookie’s time on track, Norrodin worked hard to make up for lost laps, improving his pace by over a second around the undulating Automotodrom Brno.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“The team has done a good job so far this weekend. Jakub especially started really well on Friday. We’ve tried quite a few things throughout the practice sessions on his bike and made good progress with the settings. We achieved our target with Jakub for qualifying, so I’m pleased for this. I think we have a good chance tomorrow to fight in the leading group.
With Adam things started a little more difficult with the crash in FP1 but since then he has been building his strength and confidence well, which he showed in qualifying today. It’s not easy to come back from a crash and consistently improve, so big credit to him for that. His lap time today was good and I’m happy with his progress.
Let’s see what the weather brings tomorrow but either way, we are aiming high with both riders.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“I feel quite positive right now; I think our chances for tomorrow to make a good result are very high. I’m happy for this. If I can start strong and stay with the leading group, for sure we can make a good race. All the weekend it has been quite okay and we have never been out of the top fifteen, so this is a big improvement after the difficulties we had in Austria. Qualifying was not easy; I couldn’t get any slip-stream so I had to set my lap time alone, which was quite difficult but I’m pleased that I could do this. I must say thanks to the team though because my mechanics are doing such a good job.
I think the forecast for tomorrow is something like 99% rain, but wet or dry I’m very excited to race in front of my home crowd.”
#7 Adam Norrodin
“We had a more positive qualifying today. I think we could have had a better grid position but in the last moments there was so much traffic and everyone just closed the gas, so I couldn’t improve my time anymore. Anyway I feel good about tomorrow. Yesterday we were quite far back and now we have improved quite a lot, so this is a good step in the right direction. We changed the settings just a little but I bettered my lap time, so it’s good to see that what we are doing is working. I have to thank my mechanics because they are also pushing so hard to make a good job. In the end our lap time today was not so far away. The forecast for the race is rain but I feel prepared. I feel a lot more comfortable on the bike. My aim for tomorrow is to learn, not make the same mistake as I did last time in the rain, stay calm, do the best and finish the race well.”
