Superseries Finals: Tough Draw For Chong Wei

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysian badminton hero Datuk Lee Chong Wei may not have a smooth path after all in his campaign to regain the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Superseries Finals title, which begins tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium here.

The world number one has been drawn in Group A alongside tricky opponents in the likes of Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen, Wang Zhengming of China and Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand.

The draw ceremony held at a hotel here Tuesday.

"It's a tough draw. I want to enjoy the Superseries Finals since it's the last tournament for this year and I hope I don't get any injury (during the tournament)," said Chong Wei who is scheduled to meet Wang Zhengming tomorrow.

Chong Wei, 31, has bagged six Superseries titles this year and is the favourite to win the Finals, which he had won in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Meanwhile, second seeded Kenichi Tago of Japan was drawn in Group B together with Tommy Sugiarto and Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia as well as Hu Yun of Hong Kong.

In the men's doubles, Malaysians Hoon Thien How and Tan Wee Kiong face tight hurdles from the Group A contenders consisting of Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia, Lu Xioalong/Qiu Zihan of China and Kim Ki Jung/Kim Sa Rang of South Korea.

In the mixed doubles, Malaysian Olympics pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying are drawn in Group A with top seeds Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei of China, newlyweds Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock of England and Markis Kido/Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth of Indonesia.

Hoon and Tan are to meet Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan while Chan and Goh will fight the Adcocks in the first round tomorrow.
