Royal Museum at Istana Lama Seri Menanti to be reopened beginning tomorrow

KUALA PILAH, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Royal Museum at Istana Lama Seri Menanti, near here, will be reopened to members of the public (visitors) beginning tomorrow.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun however said the museum was not fully opened and only the surrounding areas were to be opened.

"The museum will only be fully opened beginning Sept 1 after the contents for the exhibition hall and gallery are fully arranged and updated within the period specified. The reopening had been arranged after the conservation project and upgrading of the museum, which began on Nov 25 2016, was completed on March 23.

“The project costing RM4.5 million was funded through an allocation from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture,” he told reporters after the handing over of the project project by contractor NTQT Sdn Bhd and supervised by the Negeri Sembilan Public Works Department (JKR), here today.

Also present were the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Isham Ishak; Negeri Sembilan JKR Director Datuk Abdul Karim Mohd Tahir and Director of the Negeri Sembilan Museum Board Shamsudin Ahmad.

The Seri Menanti Istana Lama Royal Museum, which was made of wood, has 99 pillars and no iron nails were used in its construction.

Built in 1902, the palace was completed in 1908.

The four-storey high Royal Istana Lama Seri Menanti palace had been created by two Malay carpenters named Kahar and Taib.
