One million lucky passengers can fly for free with promo

PETALING JAYA: One million lucky passengers will fly for free with the return of AirAsia’s “Free Seats” promotion for the travel period from July 1 to Nov 10 next year. “This time customers can book their free seats with their smartphones. Guests have two additional ways of booking their seats as we have just launched our Blackberry and Android applications recently,” said AirAsia regional head of commercial Kathleen Tan. She added that the AirAsia iPhone application would be made available soon. The AirAsia applications are available for download from Blackberry App World and the Android Market by searching for the keyword “AirAsia.”

AirAsia broke the world sales record in August by selling over 500,000 seats within 24 hours during its “Mind-Blowing Fare” campaign where tickets were sold at RM1. “Hopefully, we will see a similarly encouraging response or even better as our new state-of-the-art booking system allows up to one million bookings per day,” said Tan, adding that AirAsia had been investing heavily in bringing the latest technology to its guests. “We have prepared a simple guideline on our Facebook page for guests on how they could obtain their free seats.”

The promotion, which ran for the first time earlier this year, applies to all domestic and international flights, and customers need only pay for the airport tax. Passengers can choose from 130 destinations to 20 countries including India, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam and China. AirAsiaGo is also offering RM1 hotel rooms for both domestic and international destinations that will be available for the travel period from now until Aug 31, next year.

Passengers who wish to book flights for a closer travel period will be redirected to a secondary page on the website so they won’t be affected by the high traffic when booking begins today until Nov 14, 2010. More details can be found on www.airasia.com and www.facebook.com/AirAsia.
