VMY 2014 Global Promotional Campaign Now In North America

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- The country's global promotional campaign for Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 continues with Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz currently heading a 10-day sales mission to the United States and Canada.

The delegation arrived in Los Angeles on Oct 6 to market and create awareness on VMY 2014 to the travel trade fraternity and media there and will proceed to Vancouver tomorrow and New York on Oct 12.

"The primary objective of our promotional mission to these countries is to generate and drive strong support for this campaign that will kick off officially at the stroke of midnight on Jan 1, 2014," said Mohamed Nazri in a press release issued by Tourism Malaysia.

The global campaign aims to attract 28 million tourists to the country next year, with a target of 250,000 and 97,500 tourists from the US and Canada respectively.

In 2012, Malaysia received a total of 240,134 American and 86,931 Canadian tourists, which signified an increase of 10.8% and 1.1% respectively.

During the sales mission, VMY 2014 seminars and meetings will be held in each key city to inform the local travel trade fraternity on various events that will take place during the celebration of VMY 2014.

Many fascinating events and festivals have been lined up throughout the year including the F1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix, Colours of 1Malaysia, the Malaysia International Shoe Festival, the 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism Festival, the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and the Malaysia International Tourism Night Floral Parade.

In his visits to Los Angeles and Vancouver, Mohamed Nazri is also scheduled to engage in dialogue sessions with the Malaysian community and students studying there.

"In order to ensure the resounding success of VMY 2014, every Malaysian, including students, need to play their role as gracious hosts and tourism ambassadors for Malaysia," said Mohamed Nazri.
